ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Heatshield

I've been running my 93 without an exhaust heatshield from before i even owned the car (My dad took it off shortly after they bought the car). I'm pondering whether or not to put it back on, it's still lying around somewheres, maybe I'll paint it first. Anyways, Will it really make a HUGE difference in performance or economy whether it's installed or not?

the only thing it would do is bring down engine bay temperatures. if you have a short ram, hot air = potentially less hp.

That's exactly what I was thinking, We initially removed the shield when it had a full Cold-Air intake, now it's cut down to a Short-Ram (I live in Canada, Lot's of rain, lots of snow, not a great combo with C.A.) Hmmm, I'll have to go hunt down the shield sometime soon

if you paint it with a high heat 1200 degree paint, it should work even better too

Aside from losing hp with a short ram (which takes air from the engine bay), the heat can damage any wiring under the hood over time.

Heat is ALWAYS a bad thing with cars. Do everything you can to limit the amount of heat that your parts are subjected to.

              Hey deevergote,
if you ran your ram air, shouldn't the intake for that be sticking out of the front of the car and getting outside air rammed in? Or are we talking two completely different designs?

You're talking ram air which outside air is forced into the intake by either a scoop or the intake sticking directly out of the hood. We're talking short ram, basically a regular intake with shorter tubing and a filter. I'm assuming that's what your question was??

SRI sits inside the engine bay which equals warmer air getting sucked in. On the other hand a CAI which goes down usually behind the passenger side fender is taking in more cold air from the outside. That's the 2 options they both have benefits and they both have their downfalls as well

You could do your heat shield up right and polish it like TypeG... If you haven't seen hid car, look him up!

                      Talk about the bling factor....LOL

I have mine painted with 1200 degree paint, looks nice, and has lasted thus far!

if you got the heat shield off and want to lower engine bay temps.. just wrap the header !!!

Be aware that header wrap keeps the heat in. Metal reacts to high heat. I have yet to see it happen, but it's a good possibility that header wrap will cause premature cracking.

The good thing is that the headers that are most likely to crack are usually the cheapies... so you can't really expect them to last anyway!

Yea the heat shield may not be all that appealing but its strongly recommended you have one. Try to get one that is chrome to make it look better if your worried about looks.
