ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Torque spec question - Exhaust manifold

I was reading that the torque spec for an exhaust manifold is 23 FTLBS, How acurate is this as when i put on for 23, it litterally took nothing to tighten it... Also, the stock heat shield [<(HOT)>] was damaged during removal, is this a NECCESSARY heat shield?

Ok now that that is out of the way, here is my argument - I have R134 AC setup (damn thats cold!) and it seeems that the lines are alot warmer cause of the heat off the manifold, is it ok? (its hot to the touch, but adaptable to hold, it wont burn off your skin kinda hot, and this is the line for the refridgerant mind you.)

the high pressure line on an a/c system is going to be hot to the touch no matter...it's gas that is pressurized to upwards of 200psi I believe, it will cool a little in the condensor (the thing in front of the radiator)...it looks like a thin radiator for a reason too...cause it is a radiator (sorta).

The low pressure side should be damn cold...the colder the better...sorta...it can get a little technical though. Either way...cold is GOOD...damn cold is REAL GOOD.

As to the torque specs...as long as you are following a haynes manual or chilton or something reputable you'll be fine...just make sure you've got Foot Pounds and not Inch pounds...if you found them on the internet...don't trust them...if you heard someone or someone just posted it or something...best to just get you a manual and check it...trust me...you won't regret getting the manual if you do work on your car yourself.

The heat shield has been debated...I'm not sure how effective a piece of metal that thin is to keeping heat away...but I guess it HELPS...if your a/c isn't blowing as cold as it should...I would not suspect that as a cause though...if your a/c is working fine...then don't even worry.

the heat shields are good, but not really that needed. I know plenty of people that don't have them in their car. I still have mine, All it really does is kinda reflect the heat, But after a while the shield is going to get hot. But thats for long driving times and stuff like that. I personally still have mine, But its coming off soon.

You know..you see engine rebuilds with either wrapped or non-wrapped headers...but no heat shields...higher end ones are always wrapped

No they aren't; high-end builds using ceramic coated headers.

It helps a lot. It is dual wall steel, so there is a pocket of air in between. This acts as an insulator, keeping much of the heat inside.
