ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

How Do You Check Manual Tanny Fluid?

I know automatic cars have a dipstick, but I cant seem to find one on my accord or prelude.

Also do you guys use Honda MTF or any regular one that you could buy at pepboys?

i would stick to honda MTF or GM syncromesh if you shift hard often

the manual tranny does not have a dipstick, only a drain plug and fill hole. the drain plug has a 3/8" square for a 3/8 rachet to fit in. the fill bolt is located about 11 o'clock from the drain and is a 17mm (easiest with a 17mm wrench, not socket. Takes about 2 quarts to fill it.

    hope that helps

I just changed my tranny fluid last week, i have a 5speed. I used reg advance auto parts oil for my tranny. She is old. But i used good motor oil for my motor oil change.

Its up to u. U can use just about any motor oil for a 5 speed tranny.
HERES a diy from TYPE G. it shows how 2 change the tranny fluid.
And theres no DIP stick for 5speeds. if u havent changed it in a while then change it asap. some 1on here said u change the tranny fluid thousand miles. i think he said liek every 20gs or so. i dunno how tru that is.

Honda MTF as mentioned. To check you need to take off the fill bolt and just stick your finger in there and see if you feel fluid at the lip. Make sure your on a level surface also. To fill it you jsut max it out until it starts leakin out of the hole and cap it up.

some manual trannys use gear oil and some use ATF do not put this in your honda! hondas use MTF or i believe mitchells recommends 5-30, 10-30, 10-40. depending on the climate.

As I understand it, motor oil was used originally because Honda did not have an MTF when the CBs were made, and was spec'd for 30k miles changes with normal service (forget the server service recommendation).
I used Amelie (sp?) 5w-30 oil and it was so-so. Honda MTF was a big improvement, and going half OEM and half RP SynchroMax (similar to the SynchroMesh, but RP is easier for me to get locally) smoothed it out just a hair more overall, plus greatly reduced the third gear grind, plus its been good from 0f to 90f+.
I'll be sticking with the RP/Honda MTF mix.
I'd also bet the MTF will do 30k miles easily. I'll change it when I notice degrading shifting, or maybe 50k miles.

                  Do NOT use motor oil.

there is just no comparison between motor oil and Honda MTF. It's like night and day.
