Hi guys. I have recieved varying feedback from different members on this topic, so i started this thread so i know properly once and for all, do i need to alter ANYTHING at all if i want to put 17" rims on with 205 tyres? Or can i simply take off my 15"s and place the 17"s on? If i dont change anything at all besides the rim size, will i have ANY problems, such as scrubbing or uneven wear? If so, what should be changed and what is the best way to go about it? Hopefully you guys can clarify this issue for me, thanks for your time Vinnie

A wheel that has too low an offset pushes the tire out away from the car. This causes the tires to rub on the fender lips, and if you go too low, the tires will just cause the car to not roll.
People typically run between a +40 to a +42 wheel with no major problems.
If you want to run anything in a +35 to +38 range, be ready to do a lot of research on tire size, camber, and possibly rolling your fender lips.
People have run as low as in the high +20s, but have done extensive work to make them fit, from running spacers, huge camber and very skinny tires, to cutting fender lips off altogether.
EDIT:
To answer the OP's original question, 205 tires will work fine, and if anything are on the narrow side for a 17x7 wheel. It's more of a Civic/Integra tiresize. The only problems you'll see as far as uneven wear will be due to camber and/or toe issues. I'm running a 215 tire at the moment with a 1.8ish drop (less due to AGX) and I'm not seeing any terrible tire wear issues, nor do I have any fittiment issues running a +40 offset rim.

Now, excuse my ignorance, but does every given rim have its own offset that is determined by the manufacturer, for example, could the shop tell me the offset of the rim before purchasing it?"Am i crazy? yes manufactures are in charge of determining all the allignment agles including wheel offset which is i believe a building block of alignment angles. i said that negative offset looks sick and it does. but i would probably never screw aound with. the manufacturer set all the allignment angles for a reason. any altercation will affect tire wear and steerability even if it is not noticeable. anything besides stock will alter the original angles.
and yes the shop should be able to tell you. if they cant get down with your good old tapemeasure and have some fun.word...
