ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Where exactly is the TCU?

Problem: S-light stays solid once I turn the car on. When this happens, the car is stuck in 2nd Gear. Manually shifting to D1-4 will do nothing.

Occasionally, the S-light will blink (instead of being solid) once the car is turned on. When this happens, the car is stuck in 3rd Gear when in D4 and D3. However, manually shifting to D1 and D2 will put the car in 2nd Gear.

So when the light is blinking I have no trouble driving the car via manual shifting. However, when the light is solid, I can't take the car on the highway b/c its stuck in 2nd.

could someone explain the easiest way to get to my TCU? I want to get the model number because me thinks it needs replacing. I have a sports shifter button crap...so that should be fun, finding the correct TCU.

also, is there any value that can be had if I remove and clean the lock-up[#7] and shift[#5] solenoids

I had this problem before and cycled out the tranny fluid (via drain/fill/drain/fill/drain/fill/drain/fill) and replaced a whole bunch of other tune-up parts and the problem went away for at least 4 months. But now its back and pissing me off because I know I've got another 50k on this baby.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The tcu is that module on the right. It's under the passenger side carpeting. There is a shield covering both of them (ecu and tcu), you remove that and the ecu/tcu are bolted to the back of it. It's kind of a pain, but its do-able.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

Kick out the autotranny! Get a manual. Once you start getting problems with the tranny they will keep returning. I had mine repaired 4 times till it broke down again and now I'm doing a manual swap.

you weren't kidding. I'll have to wait until the weekend to get a socket that will fit the bolts holding the plate to the base of the car. The screws poke out too far for the sockets I have.

edit: and I tried the paper clip thing to get the codes (againnnnnnnnn)...no dice. The s-light stays solid.

no tranny swap...but I will be purchasing a manual once this one dies.

yeah it needs a deep socket 10 mm, lowes sells single sockets.

And the paperclip trick should work. You'll know you're doing it right if the CEL blinks. If the S still stays solid, I believe that indicates a dead tcu.

does the board have a general consensus (that can't be spelled right...) about where to pickup a new TCU?

Also, since mine is a 91'EX (w/ the stupid sports button on the shifter), is there anything I need to look out for as far as models of TCUs that won't work with my car?

Theres a model number on the tcu, match the new one to that. And I would go to a junkyard or ebay, or forum classifieds for the most part.

why do I need a password to look at the classified? How do I get one?

edit: btw, I disassembled the TCU and checked the circuit board and everything looked flawless. I have all the records for this car and this part has never been replaced. still worth it to shell for a new one?
