ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    bent valves??

My son was driving his car (93 accord) the other day and it died. Had it towed to local garage and diagnosed as broken timing belt. He quoted me a price for new belt(s) plus water pump and I told him to go ahead. I have just discovered that the car has an interference engine and that a broken timing belt usually (always?) results in bent valves. The mechanic has left for the day but it appears that the repair has been made ( the car starts). Is there a way to tell (short of removing the head) if there are bent valves?

    Thanks

do a compression test first and then do a leakdown.
the compression test should tell you right off the bat

crank it up.....bent valves will sometimes show up as just a rough running engine and that's the easiest way to do it....if it runs properly, then it's fine, and i've had it happen to me 3 times over the years, and the valves were fine every time on the f22.....when the belt snaps, the valves quit moving while the pistons still do their thing, and it actually SHOULDN'T hit although it COULD hit......on most d series engines, they almost always DO hit......i wouldn't worry about it
....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

do not crank the engine with the t belt broken still on it. You can cause more damage. I have replaced broken t belts on many honda engines before (I work at a Honda Dealer)and 1 out of many engines had bent valves because the owner was over revving the motor and it was an h23 motor. you should be ok with the t belt replacement. I would replace the t belt first to start. good luck bro.
