ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

I bought some Royal Purple for my car and no lie, it really helps your ride. I went to school to learn how to work on cars and we tested it on some of the students rides on the dyno and I myself had just bought some. We dyno'd some of the cars that day and there was actual increase in power and emissions was actually lowered. I would by it if i were you. I give that company prop's for making that product.

Its oil. Normally it costs 8-9 a quart as I recall. MY friend gets a discount. So in other words I pay the same amount as RP10w30 with a wix filter from napa. Just seeing how it is. Prob run it for a while.

Idk why you felt the need to bring this thread back from the dead to ask what amsoil is... (good stuff tho)

Anyway, Royal Purple is good, but not that good. It's an excellent oil at first, but it deteriorates fast. When time comes for an oil change you're rockin some pretty shitty oil. My brother used it in his STi for a year and then we found out the truth about it, plus Subaru tells you not to use it because it doesn't have something in it that the STi's need. This is off topic but in the 04 STi's there was a mini oil filter and if you didn't use certain oils it will deteriorate, and RP is not one of the recommended oils. Anyway, it's a great oil at first, like I said, but it doesn't stay great for long. Don't ask me for proof of this, because I don't want to go find the thread on a forum I never use. (NASIOC) I think.

IMO use valvoline maxlife 5w-30 w/ w/e filter.

I thought about runnin 0W30 amsoil. Supposedly its pretty good. Might wanna run the amsoil bypass system too so oil can last a bit longer.

You don't gain HP with oil, and synthetic doens't CAUSE leaks either

First off...the statement "oil is oil" is vastly wrong.

Synthetic is MUCH better at protecting your engine. I "heard" a lot of good things about RP myself...but I've seen studies done (were folks sent in oil sample every 500 or 1k miles) and Mobile 1 Synthetic is the king.

When you buy any synthetic it's because it lasts longer, is designed to protect better, and it DOES protect better.

The leak issue...synthetic does NOT cause leaks...the molecules in synthetic oil are smaller so they fit through smaller holes, synthetic tends to do a better job of cleaning gunk, so if you had a leak and it plugged itself with crude...then the synthetic MIGHT clean it out and begin seaping.

but the key...if it leaks, it's not because of the synthetic...it's because of a BAD SEAL and it needs to be replaced...no matter what oil you use.

Even with synthetic you will still need to change your oil filter every 3k.

The studies I've seen (wish I could find the web site) was done on a Nissan Frontier and the guy used different brands...not sure if he was going to test RP or not. He tested two the last time I saw...I think he was in the process of testing amsoil or he had just tested it...I know his mobile 1 didn't start to degrade until 8-9k I think...it might have hit 10k before it needed changing. So synthetic can safely go 7k. Either way of the ones he tested mobile 1 was the longest lasting. But they all lasted to 7k the same. When I worked as a tech with Toyota, if people used synthetic Castrol we would tell them to come back in 5-7k (we told them 5k so they'd come back sooner but we through in the 7k so we would sleep better at night). Just make sure you change the oil filter though. It won't kill you to not change the oil filter...but it's best too.

Also, don't buy oil expecting HP gain...all you do is prevent yourself from loosing hp...you won't gain though. Yes synthetic flows better but I doubt you will see even 5 hp gain on clean synthetic vs clean conventional. You might see gains from dirty oil to clean oil. You loose HP when you pour in after market oil additives (they usually just thicken the oil) like STP's oil additive...stuff runs like molasses. I suppose in theory you could free up some ponies by using thinner oil...but not a good idea, and it wouldn't be much...maybe 1-2hp.

RP is banned from use in Cummings engines... The molybemdium something (graphite like substance) puts a lot of wear on valvetrains.

                            ah...that sounds right..

Similar stuff happens with pro-long...My folks used that crap in EVERYTHING...from the car to my go-kart...it can do some nasty things to an engine though.

I love how people actually believe all those claims they make on TV.

You tell them it's crap and they go...
"But they ran that viper without oil!...I SAW it!"

                            no...you saw tv

I only know with scientific data that Mobile 1 synthetic is good to 7k...it can possibly go longer but for me to say that I will first have to review the data (as soon as my buddy finds it and sends it to me) and try to post it here.
