I have a 92 LX Auto.
When I'm driving and slowing to about 30km and when I reapply throttle, it should just downshift to 2nd but it tries to goto 1st gear then before it gets to 1st it jumps to 2nd gear where it should be. That what it feels like to me. This also happen when I turn 90 degree corners and reapply the throttle.
It's been doing this for a year without getting better or worst.
I get no CEL codes.
One thing I notice to is that it short shifts in 4th gear compared to the other gears.
When I originally had the car it shifted hard, so I put in Honda ATF. Still shifts hard but it's better.
I took apart the TCU and all the components looks good. No leaking caps or burned resistors.
The TPS is adjusted to 0.45V at close.
I check the transmission throttle cable and there is no slack, it moves synchronously with the throttle cable.
I cleaned the solenoid valve assembly.
I checked the resistance of the NC and NM speed sensors and are within specs of 400-600ohms. Also pulled them out and cleaned them. the NC sensor had a little bit of metal shavings.
I noticed when I'm driving highway speeds. The speedometer jumps a little when I hit bumps by +-5km. I don't know if this is normal or not.
I took the VSS out and everything looks good, but I guess something could be wrong with it.
I used these forums and http://techauto.bravehost.com/ to try to figure it out the problem.
When playing around I tried driving the car with the TPS disconnected it shifts around 2500rpm and shifts so smoothly, no shift shock. But the transmission only downshifts according to speed. This gives me some knowledge that the transmission can shift smoothly, but I guess the TCU is designed to shift hard. Just interesting.
What would you guys recommend. Should I try another TCU or VSS, or could it be something wrong with the transmission itself?
Thanks,
