ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    boosting fuel economy

Ok, Intake, exhaust, good oil, dont drive like a bat out of hell, good tire pressure, less weight, etc

What are the more geeky ways to save gas?
are there any tricks that work?

What about thoes vortex air tornado things that claim like 4mpg boost... all it does is spiral the air intake aparently... anyone try one of thoes?

    Thanks

they dont do much but kill horsepower sometimes depanding of your setup. it can give a very small bump in power but nothing under 70mph+ save your money buy yourself some other parts like spark plug wires spark plugs or save extra money and add a cam that will work better then a tornado the reason i say this and dont bash it much cuz i have one and talk from experiecnce not by just reading so articile that says it does nothing. but again learn from my mistake. unless you want it for that swirly sound like me LOL goodluck
as far as saving gas driving technique does the most im sure others will chime in soon

dont fall for the gimmicks you read about. not using a/c or some vortex thing are not going to improve your fuel economy.

for starters check your plugs, plug wires, o2 sensor and fuel filter. also get a repair manual for your car (like a haynes manual) and read what invervals it recommends for maintenace versus what you have KNOW has been done. this will allow you to have a good idea of what needs to replaced right away, and what repairs are potentially right around the corner.

        good luck

just get a good tune up, and keep it in higher gears helps to i think. at least, i can be in town going 20 mph in 5th gear. prolly doesnt do much if anything, its mostly to keep my exhaust quiet really.

yeah i couldnt imagine how thoes tornado things save gas. And thoes e-superchargers look like a joke as well.

What about cams, If stock cams are for fuel efficiency... are aftermarkets going to hurt mpg?

clean out the EGR and service ports, redo the sparkplug rings if you got oil in there so you can maximize spark (and eliminate the possibility of gas shooting in the cylinder but not igniting). This will more effectively use the gas you're already putting in there (instead of wasting unburned fuel that shoots out the exhaust.) Then the rest of the engine won't have to work so hard to do the same amount of work.

Oh yeah: take advantage of hills and flatruns; the cb7s have GREAT aerodynamics and weight that make them great coasters. For city driving, on a flat road, once I accelerate to about 37mph, I usually let off the gas and coast to the next light/stopsign. No need to keep your foot on the pedal very long. (and to keep drag to a minimum, keep the windows/sunroof closed unless you're cruisin with one arm out the window for show).

Also, plan your errands so you have the most efficient trip without doubling back.

Not sure about running AC. Even though the AC clutch isn't engaged, I wonder, really, how much more work it really is for the engine to push that condenser. I always keep it off just in case, unless it's unbearably hot.

Generally, too, electronics draw on the alt, and I've always thought the engine has to work slightly harder to keep the volts up, so i would suggest not turning everything on all at once (lights, fog, fan, ac, defrost, radio, subs, all the windows at once, coffee maker, missile launchers, etc...)

I've got some sweet ways to save fuel for you. And I actually do this...
                    1. I plan everything. For example when I commute to college, I plan my class schedule so that I make the least ammount of trips possible. Another example - when I have a project and need some things from HomeDepot and AdvanceAuto, I will write out all the steps of my project on a piece of paper to know what I need and avoid going back to the store. I would go to HomeDepot before my monday classes, then stop at AdvanceAuto after school because it is on the way home and on the right side of the road when I am on my way back.
                    2. Last year I motorized my "Specialized" mountain bike with a kit I purchased on ebay for 170bucks, it runs on an 80cc 2stroke motor and runs for a few days on half a gallon of 89octane fuel. I ride the bicycle whenever I am not going anywhere far.
                    3. If you have a girlfriend with a car, let her drive when you go out on a friday night. If your brother is going shopping and you know you will need something from the store, start a conversation with him and go shopping with him in his car. If you can take the bus to work, do it - not only will you save tons of money, walking to and from the bus stop is very good for you. When you are buying a house, be sure it is in a convenient location(close to a bus stop, your work, store, etc)

lol. All your cb7 are belong to us.

Sorry for my nonsensical engrish. lol I meant that when you have the windows/sunroof open, it creates "drag" (negative force due to wind friction) because the car loses its ability to take advantage of its aerodynamic shape; the wind goes inside the cabin which acts like a parachute/airbrake and slows the car down. I was just joking about the "arm hanging out the window" bit. you know, when you go cruisin you drive "2 miles per hour, so everybody sees you..."

Oh, and I meant sparkplug seals (not rings). When they go bad, oil leaks into the sparkplug tubes. "redo them" = replace them is what I meant. Sorry for my engrish.

DPFI civic dyno'ed today with and without the tornado. I got a decrease in power with out the little gimmick thing.... Third run no intake filter or tornado. That and the power curve was all over the place.
