ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    90 accord idle problum

    OK,

I have a 90 accord, it has problems idling in all the gears (auto) the Prev. owner recently put new sparks in it, ran fine for a week after buying, then started acting weird only in Park. Then the next day, it started doing it in Drive and reverse and neutral as well...Couple of things before you answer that you should know,

First, his idle is normally set to 1400 cause it responds better,
second, What it is doing is it will crank on, (both hot and cold startups) and will go from about 3K to about 1900, then shoot back up to about 2750 then back to 1900 and it does it over and over and over. Now, if you are at a light, if you hold the brakes and barely press the gas to where it sits as 2K its fine....problem is, thats not good for gas, and it is hard to brake now, because at any time if its below 2K rpms it will do the *** thing.

I also don't think it is the ICV because if it was, it would have taken longer to start acting up. OOOO, sometimes, rarely, it will not be ***, and it is fine. normally it doesn't do this, but it will sometimes not do it for about 30 seconds.....then start again. Now the oil is about 1/3 a inch higher than the second dot for the oil level on the dip stick.....i Also sea foamed it yesterday with no luck of subduing or temperately fixing the problem.

    OK,
Now for the specs of the car....

    1990 Honda accord
1993 prelude H23 engine and tranny and stock 93 ECU (90K miles on both)
Sfac2(think thats the right name) piggyback (dyno tuned by a local race shop)
    DC ceramic headers
    3" DP back exhaust

PLEASE HELP!!!!! I really need the beast back up and running asap, and really need your help. Thanks....

    O

PS the prev. owner also said he had the same problem, and he took it to a guy, and he screwed in a flat head screw on the throttle body, and it fixed it......we tried to unscrew it to see if it would change/fix it, couldn't even get it to come out(stripped)!!! i am a car guy (prev. member of Turbobricks) and i honestly cant figure out what is wrong with this car....please help!

Bouncing Rpms? One of your igniters has probably gone bad. Heres a picture of what the little guy should look like.

And it should be on the distributor. Sorry to say, they are incredibly simplistic, but since you can't make them in your own back yard... you pay a pretty penny for this little piece of plastic and metal. I think its worth more then its weight in gold.

check for vacuum leaks by spraying some gum cutter all around and listen for a change in idle.... the first thing i would do is let the car warm up, then unplug the iacv and set the idle with the throttle body adjusting screw until its around 800-900 rpm.... if you cant get it near there then theres a 99% chance you have a vacuum leak...
this same thing happened to me, i thought it was the iacv but it ended up being an intake manifold leak on the #1 runner...

WTF....fuel/oil doesn't go through the throttle body. Seafoam didn't touch the TB unless you dripped some on it from the container. Plus, you have WAY too much oil in the engine.

Na, you can put sea foam in threw a vacuum line that plugs directly into the Throttle body. But i went to auto zone, he said that it couldn't be the Igniter because it doesn't sound like it would act the way it is acting....although you could be right, because i know the fuel delivery system isn't it, and i don't think its a vacuum leak (going to check that shortly) so if it is nether of those, it has to be something to do with the ignition.

.....ok, not cool......i cleaned the T body and i cleaned the ICV, and it didnt fix it. Then i started spraying carb cleaner for vacuum leaks, becuase you can hear a really loud leaking sound near the injectors. A little cap thing on the valve cover was leaking after i turned the car off, so i tried removing the cap.....it just broke....but i have had no luck and i am starting to lose moral......please help me.

Bump! one of the 3 nuts that hold the DC headers to the down pipe is missing, would that cause that weird idle?
