My car was lacking power and would limit at 4500rpm, i changed the fuel filter and noticed a slight difference in power. But my car would max out at 60mph. Check the timing and it is way off, got it as close as i could to the mark but it still won't go anymore, now it maxes out at 70mph. How could i fix this? I was thinking maybe the timing belt was put on off some teeth from the mark, should i take the timing belt off and try that. Only have 2 months with the car. Thankz

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

How to fix timing

Do a full tune-up before you go messing with the cam timing. Sounds like your car is just in horrible shape if it's limit went up 10mph from just a fuel filter.
Also, if it's rev limit is at 4500, then it's in limp mode. Something IS wrong with the car. Now you gota solve it.
Is it throwing any codes?

1.Oil
2.Spark Plugs
3.New Dizzy
4.Fuel filter
Anything missing?
The previous owner said that the motor was changed once already because the old one went, the body has 204000 miles on it, he said the engine should have like 70's.
I was told to try swapping computers that maybe thats what limits the rev.
Noob question but how do i check codes?THE BIRTH OF A BEAST

there is how to check a CEL
When you swapped the dizzy, did you swap the whole assembly and the ignitor, or did you keep the same ignitor?
Oh yeah, what year is the car, and what year is the engine (do you have 4 or 5 plug wires attached to the dizzy cap?)

I swapped the whole dizzy, all i kept was the rotor and the cap or my old one, the ignitor was the reason i had to change it, my car wouldnt start.
The car is 92 LX, im not sure what year the engine is, how can i check? the owner said it should be the same engine.
I think i have 5 plug wires, the 4 for the spark plugs and the 1 to the that starter coil. I will double check now, when i do the CEL check.THE BIRTH OF A BEAST

K, just got back from checking the CEL. Just to put it out there: My Check Engine light was not on to begin with. I still checked for codes, put the pin but nothing, the CEL would not blink at all just stayed on, waited like 5 mins and still nothing. Even cut the cables and put the together because i thought maybe the pins and the paper clip where not making connection.
Correction on the plugs coming out of the dizzy. There are 5, 4 to the spark splugs, and 1 to some device next to the dizzy kinda looks like a coil idk what it is. The 1 wire is not going directly to the starter coil or solenoid watever its called.
Any ideas?THE BIRTH OF A BEAST

I took it to a mechanic and he tried to put it on timing by the dizzy but it just wouldnt reach the timing mark, it came close but no more than that, he tried both ways and nothing.
Thats y i thought to take off the timing belt and correct it, maybe the timing belt is off by 180.THE BIRTH OF A BEAST

some one help this cat he clipped off his D-link connector to his ECU. Damn it boy.... re solder that back on there. Oh if your ECU light is on for ever then its a busted ECU. Get a Prelude ECU add like a Mad 10hp. that or your dizzy is fooked up . Look at that and all your connectors including your injector resistor ect.

since it has 5 connection wires on the dizzy cap, its an external coil (that 5th wire runs to the coil). Earlier years had the coil in the dizzy.
You should probably check the timing (at the timing belt), make sure the crank, and cam is lined up and also lines up with the dizzy. (crank should be straight up while cam is straight up (TDC), and at the same time, your distributor rotor should be pointing to the #1 spark plug wire.

Originally posted by aeroWell, you can also check to see if the flywheel has a mark, and if it lines up with the little pointers on the block/tranny.
Does the car run smooth at idle and while accelerating?
The Car has been running much better since i changed the fuel filter.
What ECU should i get, cause i know mines is gone. I will try to swap computer with my cuzzins cb7 tommorow to c if it makes any diffrence. I do want the Prelude ECU but don't know which one is good for a stock f22.THE BIRTH OF A BEAST

damn i didnt mean to get you all worked up for an ecu . OK so like if you clipped of the connector with the orange and blue wires just resolder and heatshrink. As far as the ecu if you have IAB Intake Manifold you have to get the PT6. Other than that any f22 ecu will work. Keep in mind that all you want to do right now is get the cb7 running right if you just so happen to add the extra hp from a ecu is pure luck. GOOD LUCK BY THE WAY
