ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

i got just RAPPPPPEDDD!!!!!!! i hate auto shops

well, its not that bad, but its still a large chunk of change for a student/part time worker, and considering my accord is only worth 1000 dollars it hurts

my 90 accord ex died on me the other day, needed an alternator. i also had some brake pads and rotors, and transmission fluid sitting around, so i asked them to replace those too and charge me labor

total bill, $538.00. way higher than expected, i was thinking maybe 300$

heres the breakdown, tell me where i was raped

    new alternator - 189.99
    labor - 95.00
replace front rotors, brakes labor - 190.00
replace transmission fluid - 47.00 (IT WAS MY FLUID TOO)

yea, so im pretty fucking stupid. i could have done the work myself, but im honestly not that inclined, plus i have no tools or garage to do the work at. i tried to replace my fluid last week but the fucking bolt was stuck and i couldnt get it off. i got a quote to replace my rotors and brake pads for $130 originially, but then they said it was pressed and some crap about bearings, and upped the charge

i also thoght alternators were like 50 bucks, 200 bucks for an alternator? god im a fucking idiot.

not in a good mood right now. the only good thing is my brakes feel much nicer, and my transmission does shift a little better with that OEM fluid in there. i also have a giant hot dog with grilled onions and cheese which im about to destroy. please feel free to expose how bad i got ripped off. my area (925) is pretty upper class so i geuss these shops are used to ripping rich people off. sad thing is, im not rich. $600 bucks for such petty work is ridiculous.

forgot to add the $135 tow fee. $10/ mile is such an awesome charge.

you coulda spent 17 bucks on a haynes manual and did this shit yourself and saved about 400 bucks. so in other words you got raped on everything except for maybe the cost of the alternator. sorry dude

edit just read the part about you being unable to do it yourself due to lack of tools and shit but n e way if i lived near you i would only charge like 150 bucks for all that

yea those prices are actually pretty standard

i've worked for several shops and dealers and thats about how much they charge

you should have done the work yourself that way you would of saved the money on labor

and yea changing rotors on 90-97 accords sucks more than most cars

you gotta consider that that mechanic makes a LIVING out of working on cars and it is on flat-rate.... just my 2 cents.....

yea my friend offered to help me do the alternator, but i had no choice really. he was 40 minutes away from the shop, and the car wasnt starting. when your car breaks down on the freeway and gets towed, your kinda obligated to have you car serviced there because the car was sitting in his parking lot for 2 nights.

swapping an alternator is only like.....3 bolts or so, plus a belt.

takes a total of 15 minutes.

That sucks dude. You definately got raped, basically because of all the labor though, which, like everyone else said, is pretty standard. Mechanics have a list of the different jobs and labor estimates for each, so its not really what they were charging but what someone else thought it should cost. It really does pay off to do your own work.
