ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    The Truth of Sport Shift

Har Har har. eh anywho, I finally found out the truth about sport shift, or until im proven wrong. I just got my cord out of shop today cause the cylinder head was cracked and all. Anywho the first chance I got I tested out the sports shift button ( only on 90 and 91 models i think) And started a gear 1 from the bottom, then when it got to the certain rpms, i moved up to gear 2, then d3 and d4 and so on. So as it seems, i think i now know what sports shift is for. So are the 90 and 91 models with sport shift featured with a similar version of tiptronic?..

all that sports shift does is keep the tranny in the gear a lil longer then normal .leave it in D4 and turn on the sports shift that is how you are suppose to do it not ratchet through the gears .

that is over drive what sportshift does is lets say your car will shift from 1st to 2nd at 2500 rpm's but with sports shift turned on it will shift at 3000 rpm's( not the real shift points just using them as an example)

4 gears forward and a three element torque converter. Electronically controlled lock-up.

The sport shift button only has an effect on the tcm, it changes the way it determines shift points (under partial throttle acceleration). During WOT there is no difference. Under partial throttle acceleration, it stays in gear slightly longer.

all that sports shift does is keep the tranny in the gear a lil longer then normal
This is the most accurate description I see here

No cb7 has tiptronic, although I can see where you might make the comparison...

This refers to modern high end vehicles, not CB7's....
Most luxury vehicles with a Tiptronic transmission have two fully-automatic modes: One, identified as "Comfort" or similar, and another, usually called "Sport," which delays upshifts for a sportier driving at the expense of fuel, wear, comfort, and noise. Then, within each major mode there are additional hidden modes selected by the transmission itself; these modes adapt to the demands being placed upon the car by the driver. In this way, shift quality has been improved due to better electronic controls; these electronics modify the shift points to adapt to a given operator's driving style.

I have the original owner's manual and it basically says that the Sports mode is for faster acceleration. But with this mode on, instead of getting all four gears that the 9091 auto has, u only get three gears

You should still get all 4 gears, I think all that meant was the sports shift only worked for 3 gears. It obviously has no effect if you are already in 4th gear because it has no 5th to shift into.

I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyways because my "Sport" light is always on even if you turn it off with the switch.

ya, I know what you mean, Mine does that too... I think the sport shift is more than 3 gears, cause ive been testing it out today. Or unless gear 1 doesnt count. Maybe it does maybe it dont. But all I know is that when you hit certain rpms on d3 you have to shift to d4...

                        Lots of misinformation here.

Accordaffair pretty much cleared it up.

Your transmission is a 4 speed auto that is electronically controlled.

All that means is that a computer tells it when to shift, and do the other things like lock up the torque converter.

Like Accordaffair said, all the "S" button does is change the computer's shift programming so that it stays in a gear longer at less than full throttle.

"S" mode only works when the gear selector is in D4 or D3. As soon as you move it to 2, then the transmission stays in 2nd gear.

That means that if you put it in 2 while you are stopped, the transmission will not start out in 1st, it will start out in 2nd.

Also, if you put the selector in 1, then it will stay in 1st gear only.

why would your "S" like be on all the time, time to check your tcu or sport button. It shouldnt be on all the time.

Is it realy the same shift points at wot with s on and off? I remeber putting my new pedels in and finding out that I wasnt going WOT because the floor mat in my car had a big ridge lol... I know, dumb huh, but after removing it and actualy going wot it seems like a later shift with s on. I mean either it drops out of overdrive at 100-105mph or it never drops out in non sport. like it gets high RPMs tell the governed speed.

Ive seen 114 in both sport and out of sport. and Ive never seen it drop outta overdrive at 100-105 except in sport and honestly it pulls alittle more at the end of sport than normal. not that there is alot of pull at that speed but, just saying.
I cant Slam further. The ground refuses to get any lower.

Ok i see now, but im not quite there yet. So physically, your saying that when you turn on "S" mode, you start at d3 and shift up to d4 when its time? Or are you saying you can still shift starting at gear 1 but it really wont have no effect until you reach d3? Ahhhh! Im so dense..
