ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    High rpm smoke

Althought this may seem like a new member question, I'm going to ask anyway.

When I am merging onto the highway, often at engine speeds over 4k, I often see smoke coming out of the tailpipe(via rearview of course).

    I have a 93 EX coupe.

1-Could this be somehow related to the secondary intake runners opening, with some kind of blockage or problem with this system. I can also smell the exhaust coming into the interior at these hugher rpms.

2-Consdiering the mileage at 227,xxx miles, this may be from engine wear. However at lower engine speeds, such as driving in traffic I see no smoke.

3-I've considered that it may be as simple as a loose hose, or an exhaust leak. I haven't had the chance to clean the ERG valve, so that is next to check out.

    Thanks!

mine and friends past experiences with the higher rpm smoke turned out to be valve seals..

with that type of mileage on your engine you may need to do a valve job. do a compression check.

yup, its the valve stem seals. that why it only happens at high rpm's. if you ever get a head job done or anything be sure to tell the machine shop to put in the new valve guide and stem seals in for you. it usually comes with the head gasket kits.

that's normal blow smoke over 4k rpm, you ever consider that its just your vtec kickin in? lol just kidding. im not goin to really say anything about the smoking problem yet because i dont know what color the smoke is. plus, i don't want to sound like a fool. but the problem with the exhaust in the car? that's not good . if the EGR is blocked, all that should really happen is an exhaust restriction, and maybe an engine light. you should probably check for the leak from the headers to the EGR, including everything in between that. you should also probably check if you have an underbody exhaust leak, just to eliminate that factor. fumes are the last thing you want in the cabin. oh, and btw, do you have any work done to your car?

Color of smoke is critical. White is coolant/water, and COULD mean headgasket. You would want to have a shop to a head gasket integrity test.

Blue/black is more likely oil. Stems seals are a good bet, especially if they've never been done. Also, if it turns out to be this, I would recommend highly going to get Honda OE stems seals, the cheap ones in head kits are usually very poorly made and might start leaking again soon. They're not expensive from honda, and its a good investment.

It is difficult to tell what color the smoke is, but i'd sure like to find out. I hoped that it didn't require head work, although that may come later.
Hah! Vtech would be nice, but I do enjoy the secondary runners when they kick in.

ITS VTEC DAMN IT. And Black is a rich mixture. Oil only comes in blue or grey smoke.
