ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Engine choice Q's

ok guys i have on elast question to begin my engine buy. i have a f22a1 with 211,xxx miles on it now. it uses oil and the tranny grinds some in the gears and the motor mounts are goin on it. should i keep and build this motor up? or is it way to tired to be worth doing so. and i've already been told this by deevergote that the jdm f22b dohc motor is illeagal in cali and will not pass smog. is this a for sure fact because i have seen a lot of people with this swap and i really would like to get the motor/tranny combo but if its illeagal then what are my best options?

    Thanks

Well it wont pass BAR in Cali because its JDM and the ECU has a rich tune. I dont think they have it registered in teh system too but I am not sure. You can try an H23A1 which is a USDM motor which has a lot of potential for what it is. But the F22B I dunno if the smog testers will allow it might want to ask them unless you can somehow buy your way around it.

hmm makes me wonder. well whats the difference in the h23 and the f22b? just heads/ vtec? or is it almost completely different? ill go to the local smog shop this week and find out more about it. can i use the stock ecu to pass smog? will that work?

JDM F22B is the JDM predecessor of the H23A1....Both motors have no VTEC. H23A1 has more displacement and it is USDM so BAR people that smog will notice it. The JDM F22B was never shipped to the US so trying to pass it is going to be a bitch. The P14 which comes with the h23a1 should pass. As for the p39 with the f22b prob wont but you never know.

sounds like a lot of bs fun lol. unless i get it registered in nevada or oregon i will be good to go. does that mean the h22a wont pass either?

ok if all else fails in the f22b dohc jdm. then where am i going to find a f22a? that is complete with manual tranny.

H22A will pass needs some tweaking. I have heard of people runnign the USDM p13 instead of the JDM and passing. SO it depends. But to be on the safe side you can purchase a USDM h22a its only 10hp difference and compression is a bit lower. I would check around Cali and see whos running an f22b and see what they did to pass. There are ways around the emissions system but that requires some extra money.
