ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Help - coolant "problem"?

I recently bought a 91 LX wagon with 232k miles on it. It runs great and I have been working on fixing it up for my daily driver for the past couple weeks. When I bought it the guy said he had added coolant and told me that he had not had to do that before but the car had been sitting for a few months so I thought nothing of it. I later found the system to be extremely dirty and changed the t-stat with a Napa version along with flushing the system. I was still losing coolant so I looked more and found a small crack on the radiator so I replaced it yesterday. The temp on the car is always at a good level and I do get heat - but the lower radiator hose never seems to get hot and the car seems to blow only warm air at idle but hot air while driving. It doesn't seem like the t-stat ever opens because I don't see coolant flowing in the radiator at idle - it just seems to expand out of the top if I give it gas at idle even after the car is showing it is warmed up. I do have overdrive and it seems that after I drive for a while the lower hose does eventually warm up - but the whole thing just doesn't seem right. I plan to do a water pump when I change the timing belt and seals - but I was hoping to put that off for a month or so. Any other suggestions? Could I have a bed t-stat from Napa?

BTW - there doesn't appear to be any coolant in the oil or anything and the compression on the motor was 185 on all 4 cylinders. HELP!

I know i've seen people put the t-stat in backwards before, are you sure you put in in correctly? If so, take it back out and get a pot and a thermometer that goes up to 200 degrees or so (can get at walmart for a couple bucks) and put water in it and heat it up. Watch it if it opens at the right temperature then its fine and you have a different problem.

I dont know how similar you'd consider it, but Im having a similar problem. Im not leaking and, that ive found, nothing is cracked. I just replaced my fan switch, and the t-stat is nearly new, yet, im slowly losing coolant. Im having to put coolant in about every 10-14 days, depending on what kind of trips i make. The gauge reads warm-to-hot when i drive for a period of time, then sit, but just as soon as i get moving, it cools down Sounds like your t-stat might be in backwards Definitely report back and let us know whats up.

What direction in the t-stat supposed to be? If I recall it went in with the larger side with springs, etc in towards the motor and the little pointed end towards the lower hose. Is that correct?

I stopped by the dealer today and they guy thought maybe the t-stat just wasn't opening and suggested I buy a genuine Honda one and try it. I can't believe that I paid almost $23 for this thing but I plan to install it tonight and see what happens. The upper hose seems to be swelling because of the pressure so I now I think I will end up replacing that too. Man - this car is nickle and diming me to death!
