ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    turbo spitting oil, HELP

alright, I JUST put on my turbo after a ton of work and preperation. Chipped ECU, zeitronix datalogger, t3/t4 turbo, custom downpipe. Anyway, primed the turbo with oil and started it with no piping going to the intake and everthing seemed fine. Got even more brave and actually drove it. Upon return and inspection of the turbo, oil is leaking out of the compressor The turbo was supposedly rebuilt and I have the oil drain at the top of my oilpan, any ideas of what could be going on?

P.S. why are you not supposed to use any thread sealant on the inlet/outlet threads of the turbo oil

Is there any shaftplay on the turbo now? Sounds like a bad rebuild man....

is the car smoking at all?

i used a little bit of teflon tape on my inlet outlet, just be careful because that would be very bad to get into your oil system. As for thread sealant, i have no clue

I do have a restrictor on the oil inlet, no smoke is blowing out the exhaust, and there is minimal shaft play in and out, side to side. I would post pictures but my digital camera just broke. It wont leak at idle or low rpms, and I haven't got it to do it while not moving. All I know is this sucks.

is it leaking from the oil fitting, or is it leaking from inside the compressor? if its the later, you have a bad turbo, and the only thing you can do is rebuild it. if its just a fitting leak, redo it. iv never heard that you cant use thread sealent.

humm thats wierd... at first i was thinking the oil seals might be shot in the turbo.. but usually it would cause oil in the exhuast to... is you oil drain line all straight and unrestrictive and stuff?

yeah, the drain line is unrestricted and straight. Somebody suggested to me that the seals havent set yet, but I doubt it, thats not my luck. If it comes to rebuilding the turbo im doing it myself. Any good how to sites? I looked and couldn't find anything good.

yeah, the manifold I bought was a used aftermarket dsm manifold for a t3 turbo.

when you "took it out for a spin" did you go WOT anywhere past 4000rpm? Because without any IC piping adding back pressure theres no way the wastegate would have seen boost, opened up, and slowed the turbo blades down. My guess is you just overspun the turbo.

well, Im going to be rebuilding my turbo, but cant find any good how-to sites with good information like how to get the turbine/compressor out without bending them. Or how much torque should I use to retighten everything. Anyone know of a place to find this info?

I had the actuator arm disconnected from the wastegate so it should have been all the way open. Im thinking the guy who rebuilt it before me didn't have it balanced. Oh well, live and learn. I just hope when I rebuild it, IT WORKS. Thats all I ask.
