ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Should I buy this 92 Accord EX-R

    Hi guys!

This is my first post. I am thinking of buying a 1992 Honda Accord EX-R. I am looking for a car that will be cheap on gas and is somewhat reliable because I do not want to buy a money pit. I would like the car to last for two years. I thought an Accord was good choice because there are alot of 4th gen accords for sale in the market right now here in Ottawa, Canada...makes sense since so many were bought. Price seems to vary depending on mileage mostly. Remember it is the year 2006 and we have salty winters in Canada

I want a manual accord because I know the auto transmission can sometimes be a little rough on these cars.

All of the 1992 Accord EX-R with LOW mileage (125,000KM-130,000KM) are usually automatics and are selling for 4-5K CAD right now. Those with over 200, 000KM are selling for around 3K+

I am looking at this car and would like to know if it is a wise choice to buy. HE IS ASKING FOR 1200CAD$$$
    http://www.usedottawa.com/classified...passenger-cars
Given the problems explained below, I think I could snatch it for 1000CAD and get it fixed up ready to go on the road for another 500CAD (windshield + brakes) totaling 1500CAD. I would be willing to put another 1500 CAD into the car over the next couple of months for repairs / very minor mods (I have all of this money cash right now).

It has 227,000KM. Is this too high to think about putting money (total about 2000CAD+1000CAD FOR CAR) into a Canadian 1992?
I called him, he is a student and was desperate to sell. He bought it about a month ago with the intention of fixing it up, but he says he doesnt have the money now since he is moving out of his parents home. I believe him, but I am skeptical as always.
He says when he bought the car the bumper was red and that he painted it green. This would mean the car has been in a fender bender or something worse. He said the car would need a windshield (got a quote for 350CAD + tx including chrome trim and labout), brakes (80CAD) and I would need tires (probably ride these old ones out till the winter shows).

These are my notes from when I called him. I had a LONG list of questions and I summed up the results.
    DESPERATE TO SELL.
    ASKING 1200-1300.

    1992 EX-R
    5 SPD Manual
    227Klicks
    beige/tan interior

    Original Motor
    Bought it a month ago
Had a red fender (painted it green) meaning the car was in an accident before he bought it.
Tinted windows, rear one needs to be retinted.
    NEEDS BRAKES AND A WINDSHIELD.
    Not the original owner.
Does not have the cash to take care of it.
    Bought a spoiler, not installed.
He has not smoked in the car.
    Doesn't leak any fluids.
    A/C blows cold. Heater works.
Can put a tape or cd player in it.
Car doesn't pull to the left of to the right.
    Has an alarm.

Back left tire would need to be changed.

PLEASE, TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!!!! SHOULD I BUY THIS OR NOT? What concerns me most is the high KM! DOES HE SOUND LIKE BS?! Is it worth putting that much money into a 4th Gen accord?

I was going to go and see it tomorrow.

Thank you very much for reading. All feedback is GREATLY appreciated! Keep it coming!
    Cheers!!

X2. Try and get a Carfax Report for it. I dont know if Carfax keeps track of canadian cars or not? Definatly find out how bad the accident was and make sure you arent getting yourself into a bad situation, bent frame or something like that. If you have a person that you know of that knows a lot about cars (Mechanic or just a smart car guy) have them check it out before you buy to make sure this isnt too good to be true. Good luck. Welcome to CB7tuner. Later

when you get it regesterd you have to paty for a manditory car fax btw I paid 3800$ for my car as is, cost like 220, for the saftey and etest and like 370 to get it regesterd at the licence place. then I had to get the front brakes changed and the timing belt, 500 for brakes and 670 for the tbelt, you better check this shit before you buy it. btw where do you live?

            Whats up stealthman!

I live in Aylmer on the other side of the river but I go to OttawaU..
The car will be safetied in Quebec and there will be no need for an e-test I believe (besides he says it is already e-tested).

Do you know of a garage near Orleans or in Ottawa I could have him bring the car to so they can look at it? How much would I be looking at paying for a service like that in Ottawa?

I know some people around where I live that could do it but I want to avoid asing him to drive 30 mins out.

sounds pretty good to me, i was going to buy a maroon one and paint it black or a dark green also.

also these motors will go to 300,000 miles and prolly higher is maintained properly.
