Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    H22 Auto Tranny

I thought this question would be better in the SWAP category but it won't let me post there. What gives???

Anyways.. I traded in my Acura Legend for an Accord cuz I needed an auto (wife won't drive stick) I hate the tranny in this car. The way it shifts does nothing but piss me off. I tried to find my own answer by searching but to no luck.

My question is: How does the auto tranny from an H22 feel?? I'm interested in the H22 engine swap not just for the power increase but also for the chance that it will feel smoother. Please don't respond with a "swap to a manual", I just had a stick shift. I have always had a stick shift, I love them. I have to think of the wife here.

How do I get privelages to post in other areas?? I've been driving and messing with Hondas and Acuras for a few years now. I'm not exactly a beginner.

    Thanks in advance

    ~Mike

Well, if your just gonna swap in the auto from a h22, I say save yourself the hassle and dont, cuss if its just gonna go back on the f22 then it wont be worth, now if its was auto to stick or h22 auto swap in then it be ok.. If I were u, Imake the lady drive that stick, give here a month and she be good. thats wat i made my lady do, and heck, now I dont have to ever buy a auto. AUTO = BREAKWDOWN!

Ummm,, I sorta meant that I wanted an H22 Engine AND tranny... I'm not an idiot... I'm not gonna take a tranny from an H22 and use in on an F22 engine...

So back to my original question then... If I want to swap BOTH... How is the tranny on the H22??? Will I like it better??

well what dont you like about the tranny you have now? does it shift hard? does it shift too soon for you? too late? If nothing else, you will like it because when you give it some gas It gonna scoot. Look at this vid of a cord with auto h22. h22 accord

Yes it does feel a little hard.. But i'm not worried about that. I just find that the "brain" of the tranny os a retard. It doesn't seem to know when and how to shift. If I'm in rush hour it seems to drag in one gear and then suddenly shift making it very annoying and uncomfortable. If I'm booting it hard it's alright but it seems to shift too soon. It's almost like it can't really determine the throttle position. It thinks completely backwards. Basically it's the most annoying automatic I've ever driven. I hate automatics. I like this car though.

sounds like a bad TCU. Does the "S" light on the dash flash when you first start your car? I belive thats the indicator for a transmission error, its that or the "D4" light flashes I cant remeber. Honda auto transmissions shift "harder" than most others but if they are in good condition it shouldnt be having problems figuing out when to shift. Ive got 2 autotrans 1990s both near 200,000 miles and they know when to shift, when to go into overdrive and when to settle in a higher gear when i let off the pedal.

Flush the tranny and use Honda ATF from a honda dealership. Makes a world of diffrence if there isnt a problem with the TCU, id get it looked at by a reputable shop that deals with autotrans only shouldnt be more than a half hour and 50$ to have it dianosed. could just be a cable thats streched or something simple they will adjust free as part of the dianosis.
I cant Slam further. The ground refuses to get any lower.

Ok I will try the tranny flush. Anyone have a video with the swap and auto tranny... That'd be cool. I'm assuming that those videos are 5 speeds

I have the H22 Auto swap. It will shift hard sometimes. I notice that the shifting is alot smoother with the sport "S" button on. The sport button will keep you in gear longer and shift a little smoother. you will have to get a 90-91 shifter and guage assembly. You will have to get the H22A TCM and connect the S switch from the auto shifter to pin D20 at the TCM. You will also need to change one wire from pin B4 to B12 at the guage assembly and run a wire from the auto shifter to pin B4. This is if you have a 92-93 auto accord. If you have 90-91 EX/SE you will not have to make the mods that I listed above because the car is already pre-wired for the sport mode "S" button.

Yeah I have the "S" button... It's ok... but it hangs in gear wayyyy too long when booting it from a stop ... and then it doesn't switch in a way that i think it should. Maybe it's just my tranny... but if i'm gonna go through the effort of switching the tranny, I'm going for the whole swap... may as well...

                        Update.....

Turns out my spark plug tube seals were shot... Oil all over the place. Got that all fixed up and now she feels better than ever... shifting seems to be smoother now too... Maybe it had to do with the engine not working effeciently the tranny wasn't getting the correct signals and power as well..

Maybe it's a placebo??? Who knows... It's liveable now...

Still want a H22 though.... One day
