ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

I 100% disagree with that statement.

What do you think the F22B DOHC is? Its a JDM STOCK frankenstein motor.

F22 bottom end, but with the capabilities of an H23.

so, if you put any of those heads onto an F22A block, its gona be exactly the same as the F22B.

anything can be as reliable as you want it to be. That goes with wild NA to wild turbo setups.

Logic tell you that a stock motor is as reliable as it could be. Once you put something aftermarket on it it is less reliable and the more stuff you put on it, the less reliable it is, etc, etc..... atleast thats what logic tells us. Logic is not always correct.

Maintainance(sp?) as well as parts used are key in reliability.

i have to agree. as long as you drive the car within the limits of the BOTTOM end (eg, dont rev an F22/H22 frank to 8k) then it should be just as reliable as a factory motor. This also assumes it is nicely tuned.

the bad rep franks have come from the LS/VTEC world, where ignorant people rev their LS blocks to 9k.

        So true.....

There is also a misconception between the terms "reliability" and "longevity."

Well, if a motor doesn't last a long time without major issues, it's not reliable. If it lasts 6 months with NO problems, I don't consider that reliable. My H22 has been good to me, and I don't baby it, for 3 years. Nothing but the most basic routine maintenance (it needs a timing belt and valve adjustment badly).

Frankenstein motors built with professional quality care and knowledge would certainly be decent in terms of reliability. However, you can't assume that every frank built by an amateur tuner will be as good. When it comes to car modifications, it's best to assume that the person you're giving advice to is a complete idiot in terms of what they are asking.

For example, I bought my 86 hatchback based on the idea that I could put a turbo kit on it. Sure the block is iron, great for holding boost. Parts are cheap. However, under the surface, boosting a 3G was much more difficult than I thought. That car sat for 2 years untouched until I sold it. I dove into the project unaware of what I was getting into.

Sure, any idiot could slap another head onto their block. However, if everything isn't done properly it won't be reliable (simply removing and installing a head isn't beginner work... do it wrong and you've got a warped head). It's not the different head on the block that matters, it's the fact that an amateur is the one doing it. If I've learned only ONE thing in my life as a tuner, it's that NOTHING is as easy as you think when it comes to cars.
