ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Help with Brakes...

Hey guys, I've been experiencing some things that i dont like too much about my brakes. When i start the car after it has been off for a while, i notice that when i depress the brakes, they squeak quite a bit. However, if i depress the brakes hard to a complete stop it stops the squeak and i can go on normally. Last thing is that I notice that i have a fairly "soft" brake pedal, the brakes dont "bite" too hard if i dont depress a lot. If anyone could give me a little feedback it would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for writing so much! Thanks.

replace the brake pad.. and sqeeze out all the brake fluid. close it out and refill new brake fluid. this should do. if u have auto discount part store around ur area then get a really good brake pad. a cheap one would be 20 bucks (miami) so get the best one.. cuz they dust free and dont make any noise at all.. u would want the dust free to keep ur rims clean. they oftenly dirty the rims easily.

Definitely get new pads... you might need new rotors as well (it's usually easier to just have a shop do the rotors for you...)

From the sound of it, it sounds like your brake master cylinder may be on it's way out as well. I've been living with my failing one for 2 years now. When it's hot out, and you're sitting still while depressing the brake, does your pedal sink to the floor? That's a definite sign of the master cylinder going bad.

Your brake lines could also be going bad as well. The stock rubber lines flex with pressure over time, causing a spongy pedal.

For pads, rotors, BMC, and lines... you're look at about $200-$250 for replacement parts, plus labor if you can't do most of it yourself. $300-$350 for decent upgrade parts.

This may be the perfect oppurtunity/chance to upgrade to performance brakes, such as getting performance brake pads, and rotors. Some good performance brands for pads are EBC, and AEM, and as customlowz said ceramic pads are a good upgrade as well. As for rotors i'd do powerslot or the brembos...it will help out your braking a lot, and you will see a definite improvement.

at anyrate tho, it will be expensive to change the rotors, and it would be easiest to take them to a shop, because the bearings/hubs need to be pressed in.

Would it be bad if I upgrade my pads, rotors and lines, but leave the brake master cylinder as it is? Or would it be better to get replacement pads, rotors, BMC and lines as deevergote mentioned? Thanks.

from the way it sounds, id keep it stock unless u plan on actually getting the use out of the upgrades. but either way like williamsvt said, the rotors need to be pressed which is where it catches people. The shop I wurk at on our pricing the pressed stuff isnt cheap to put it lightly because of that factor. If it was me id first try cyramic pads, bleed brakes. if u hav rear drums, check the shoes, and if u think the pedal isnt "high" or "tight" then spoon em out. once dun with that if there's still probz then u deal with them accordingly

I'd go with pads, check rotors (if bad, replace em), get stainless steel brake lines, and new brake fluid. if ya still have a prob, then swap out the BMC. just my $.02. Good luck.
