Well to start I'm sorry about this post, someone has probably already asked it to some degree. I have a fairly stock 90 Accord 2dr EX-R, probably getting VTEC in a month or so. The engine installed comes to around $5k and I really have no clue about VTEC, the stock engine in it already etc. Could someone give their 2cents about this, pretty well guarteed getting the engine, just don't know if I should get a turbo, find a more proper engine, etc.?

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Keep in mind that VTEC explanation link isn't perfect. It references cars never sold in the U.S. and omits the marketing name of Honda's VTEC used for the last several years, i-VTEC
I mention this because omsummer needs to know what he's buying; i.e. the differences in the various VTEC engines applicable to a CB7 Accord.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

If you're paying $5000 for a swap plus labor, you had better be getting an H22 (convert that to USD, and you're paying pretty close to what I paid for my motor with labor... which is fairly high).
If you want turbo, the H22 is a bad choice. It isn't a very turbo-friendly motor without some major internal modification (after that modification, it's a monster though). Still, the H22 is a very potent motor without turbo. With a good header, exhaust, intake, cams, and tuning, you should be able to run low 14s at least.
Oh, and the whole "VTEC is for gas mileage" thing isn't necessarily true. The SOHC VTEC motors are more for fuel economy, but the performance motors like the H22 and B18C definitely make better use of it. The motor's powerband is considerably increased. It can produce more low-end power with the primary lobes, and when the power would normally fall off in the case of a similar spec non-vtec cam, it switches to the VTEC lobes. Essentially, VTEC is like having 2 cams in one.
