ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Leaking coolant from somewhere around the oil filter???

    Hi guys,
I have a leaking coolant by the back of the engine area that drips down to the pipe causing a smoking engine bay.
It's hard to see where it's at but I can see that it's somewhere around the oil filter.
It's not that big of a puddle under the car but enough to notice it. And it's not by the water pump area where
    others have leaked the coolant.

I looked at the Haynes but no info found and looked at the service manual diagram and notice that there are
a lot of hoses that are connected around where thermo stat is.

I showed the leak to the mechanic and he tells me that it's a regulator pipe that needs to be replaced
which will cost me around $200.00. He tells me that the part will cost $5.00 but it's labor intense since he
have to take off a lot of things. Does this sound right?

    Thanks,

I would have the cooling system pressure tested, and try to find the leak first. Then go from there.

thats nominal for mech to charge, all they want is $$, business is all about $$....it aint that hard to do, can u do your own oil change??? if you can, just jack up the car put jack stand under it and go down there to take a good look, you probably find it yoursefl....that simple, i wouldnt pay no guy $200 to do it, not or a small coolant leak like that! but, like i say, go under and check it out yourself first!

91lx Get a flashlight out and look back there. There are a few hoses on the intake manifold its self that could be leaking. Also check the right side where the intake meets the block it may be the manifold gasket its self. A coolent leak should not be to hard to find. quick edit here yeah labor would be a pain in the ass if its like the manifold gasket it took me 6 hours to do my intake swap but its the same steps to change that gasket.

U should prolly take off the intake manifold to see where the leak is coming from. Once its off you could do the job yourself.
