ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    JDM H22 Drop plan?

I have the standard F22A4 with 257,xxx miles. The engine is fine to me, I dont really street race, but I want to build a car that looks good, sounds good, and has a set of balls. I work a 40+ hour week, and I go to college full time. Basically all this translates to is the fact that I cannot be out a car for very long or im screwed. I have 2 week periods in between semester quarters that I can do major maintenance in, yet I still have to get to work. The wife goes to work and school also. Theoretically, i could use her car, but I have one of those bitchy wives that refuses to drive my ass to school or work.

So.... I am standing to reason that dropping in a <65k motor (H22) is more of an economical decision than to rebuild the F22 that is already in the car. I have to pretty much do it all myself other than machine shopping; I am not paying 2 grand for an engine overhaul.

I am not willing to put headers, exhaust, etc on an engine I am just going to swap out.

Should I drop the H22 in, or leave it F22 and overhaul? The ONLY deciding factor is economy. I am not factoring in horsepower, ultra-coolness, etc. This will never be a street or drag racer; the farthest I would ever do with it is to add a turbo to it for my own enjoyment. [then again that is what I am thinking as of now, who knows down the road]

I'm not clear on your goal. Your first paragraph describes a person who has no time to do a swap, essentially. Especially his first swap?

The rest of your post then becomes somewhat irrelevant, it would seem. If time is more precious than money, consider buying a cheap beater to take you to work so that you have time for a bigger project like a swap ... you must leave open the possibility that something will go awry that will consume a number of days to sort out.

Well if the F is fine to you why dont you just turbo it. Run a comp test and such see if its alright do some checking around make sure seals are good and there are some other factors but if those work out then I would just say boost it. I would think it would take lesss time than an h22a. Just gotta wait for parts and such plus tuning would take a while but with all the knowledgable people on here that tune they should be able to help you out with a basemap or so to get you started.

I've done an H22 swap and I"ve turboed an eclipse that came off the factory non-turboed. If i were you, and you want the performance, i'd go for the h22 swap. I found mine for 1300 shipped. I did the swap myself, I took my time, and i finishd it in about 4 days. I wouldnt suggest turbo. Because there is a higher possibility of detonation and overboost and other realms of problems compared to just an h22 swap. As far as economy, well both would give you about the same gas mileage although i think the f22 would give you the best. But neither turbo nor engine swap should put you below 20 mpg.
