1990-93 Accord
See Figure 4
1. Disconnect the battery cables, negative first. Remove the battery and battery case.
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Double check the security and placement of the stands.
3. Place the hood in a vertical position and safely support it in place. Do not remove the hood.
4. Remove the engine splash shield. Drain the engine oil, coolant and transaxle fluid.
5. Remove the air intake duct and the air cleaner case.
6. Relieve the fuel system pressure using the correct procedure.
7. Remove the fuel feed hose from the fuel pipe and the return hose from the pressure control valve.
8. Remove the control box from the firewall.
Do not disconnect the vacuum hoses.
9. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the charcoal canister and the charcoal canister hose from the throttle body.
10. Remove the ground cable from the transaxle.
11. Remove the throttle cable by loosening the locknut, then slip the cable end out of the throttle bracket and accelerator linkage.
Be careful not to bend the cable when removing. Do not use pliers to remove the cable from the linkage. Always replace a kinked cable with a new one.
12. Unplug the connector and the vacuum hose, then remove the cruise control actuator.
13. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose and mount; remove the vacuum hose from the intake manifold.
14. Unplug the three engine harness connectors from the main wire harness at the right side of the engine compartment. Remove the engine wire harness terminal and the starter cable terminal from the underhood relay box and clamps. Then remove the transaxle ground terminal.
15. Unplug the two engine wire harness connectors from the main harness and the resistor at the left side of the engine compartment.
16. Remove the engine ground wire from the valve cover. Remove the power steering pump bracket.
17. Remove the mounting bolts and the power steering belt from the power steering pump, then, without disconnecting the hoses, pull the pump away from its mounting bracket. Support the pump out of the way.
18. Remove the mounting bolts and belt from the air conditioning compressor. Without disconnecting the hoses, pull the compressor away from it's mounting bracket. Support the compressor with stiff wire out of the way.
19. Disconnect the heater hoses. Disconnect the radiator hoses, automatic transaxle cooler hoses and the cooling fan connectors. Remove the radiator/cooling fan assembly.
20. Remove the speed sensor without disconnecting the hoses or connector.
21. Remove the center beam.
22. Remove the exhaust pipe nuts and bracket mounting bolts.
23. Remove the halfshafts as follows:
a. Remove the front wheels.
b. Raise the locking tab on the spindle nut and remove it.
c. Remove the damper fork nut, damper pinch bolt and remove the damper fork.
d. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the lower ball joint.
e. Using a suitable puller, separate the lower control arm from the knuckle.
f. Pull the knuckle outward and remove the halfshaft outboard CV-joint from the knuckle using a suitable plastic hammer.
g. Using a suitable pry bar, pry the halfshaft out to force the set ring at the end of the halfshaft past the groove.
h. Pull the inboard CV-joint and remove the halfshaft and CV-joint out of the differential case or intermediate shaft as an assembly.
Do not pull on the halfshaft, as the CV-joint may come apart. Tie plastic bags over the halfshaft ends to protect them.
24. On manual transaxle equipped vehicles, remove the clutch release hose from the clutch damper on the transaxle housing. Remove the shift cable and the select cable with the cable bracket from the transaxle.
Be careful not to bend the cable when removing. Do not use pliers to remove the cable. Always replace a kinked cable with a new one.
25. On automatic transaxle equipped vehicles, remove the engine stiffener, then remove the torque converter cover. Remove the cable holder, then remove the shift control lever bolt and shift control cable.
26. Attach a suitable lifting device to the engine. Raise the engine to unload the engine mounts.
27. Remove the front and rear engine mounting bolts.
28. Remove the engine side mount and mounting bolt. Remove the side transaxle mount and mounting bolt.
29. Make sure the engine/transaxle assembly is completely free of vacuum hoses, fuel and coolant hoses and electrical wires.

30. Slowly raise the engine approximately 6 in. (152mm). Check again that all hoses and wires have been disconnected from the engine/transaxle assembly.
31. Raise the engine/transaxle assembly all the way and remove it from the vehicle.
32. Remove the transaxle.
33. On manual transaxles, remove the clutch cover (pressure plate) and clutch disc.
34. Mount the engine on an engine stand, making sure the mounting bolts are tight. If an engine stand is not available, support the engine in an upright position with blocks. Never leave an engine hanging from a lift or hoist.
To install:
35. Assemble the clutch disc and pressure plate to the flywheel for manual transaxle vehicles.
36. Install the transaxle.
37. Lift the engine into position and lower it into the car, aligning the mounts and bushings.
When installing the engine mounts and vibration dampers in the following steps, the bolts running through the large rubber bushings should only be set snug or finger-tight until all are in place. They must be tightened to the correct tension in the correct order if they are to dampen vibration properly.
38. Install the side engine mount and mounting bolt. Install the through-bolt.
39. Install the side transmission mount and bolt.
40. Install the front and rear engine mounting bolts.
41. At this point the engine is loosely mounted in the vehicle. Slacken the hoist chains, allowing the engine to settle into place. The vehicle must be sitting level during the next step.
42. With the vehicle sitting level, tighten the mounting nuts/bolts in the order given to the proper torque. Both the order and tightness are important; the bushings play a great role in damping engine vibration.
43. Remove the hoist equipment from the engine. If the car was lowered for the previous step, re-elevate it and support it safely.
44. For automatic transaxles, install the shift control cable and cable holder. Install the torque converter cover and the engine stiffener.
45. For manual transaxles, connect the shift cable and shift select cable. Install the clutch release hose.
46. Install the driveshafts. Use a new circlip on each; install the shaft until a positive click is heard as the axle locks into place.
47. Install the ball joints to the lower arms and tie rods. Tighten the lower arm nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm) and the tie rod nuts to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm). Install new cotter pins.
48. Install the exhaust pipe. Use new nuts; tighten the pipe-to-manifold nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
49. Install the center beam. Tighten the bolts to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
50. Install the speed sensor. Tighten the retaining bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
51. Install the radiator; connect the coolant and transmission oil cooler lines. Engage the cooling fan connectors.
52. Connect the heater inlet and outlet hoses to the cylinder head and connecting pipe, respectively.
53. Install the A/C compressor and belt, tightening the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
54. Install the power steering pump and belt. Tighten the bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm) and the nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
55. Connect the engine ground wire to the valve cover and the power steering pump bracket.
56. Connect the transaxle ground strap. Connect the starter cable terminal and install the engine wire harness terminal. Connect the three connectors for the main wire harness at the right side of the engine compartment.
57. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the manifold and to the brake booster.
58. Connect the throttle cable and secure the locknut.
59. Connect the ground cable to the transaxle.
60. Install the control box on the firewall and engage the wiring connectors.
61. Using new washers, connect the fuel line and return hose to the pressure control valve.
62. Install the air cleaner and the intake ductwork.
63. Refill the transaxle fluid.
64. Refill the cooling system.
65. Refill the engine oil.
66. Install the battery base and battery.
67. Double check all installation items, paying particular attention to loose hoses or hanging wires, untightened nuts, poor routing of hoses and wires (too tight or rubbing) and tools left in the engine area.
68. Connect the battery cables, positive first.
69. Disconnect the coil wire from the distributor. Insulate or protect the end of the cable so it does not arc to the engine or surrounding metal. Without touching the accelerator, turn the ignition switch to the START position and crank the engine for about 5-10 seconds; this will develop some oil pressure within the motor. Do not exceed 10 seconds cranking.
70. Switch the ignition OFF and reconnect the coil.
71. Start the engine, allowing it to idle. Check the hoses and lines carefully for any sign of leakage.
72. Bleed the air from the cooling system; check the timing and idle speed.
73. After the engine has warmed up fully and the fan(s) have come on at least once, recheck the engine for fluid leaks. Shut the engine off.
74. Adjust the belts, clutch and throttle cable as necessary.
75. Install the front wheels. Lower the hood.

18. Remove the mounting bolts and belt from the air conditioning compressor. Without disconnecting the hoses, pull the compressor away from it's mounting bracket. Support the compressor with stiff wire out of the way.
19. Disconnect the heater hoses. Disconnect the radiator hoses, automatic transaxle cooler hoses and the cooling fan connectors. Remove the radiator/cooling fan assembly.
