    Rear Window Regulator Swap

Does anybody have a procedure for replacing rear window regulators? I have a 1990 EX 4dr, and need to replace the drivers side rear regulator. I have searched here and other Honda sites and have not seen much. I also have both Chiltons and Haynes, both of which do not go into detail.

For instance, will I have to remove the window? Also, what kind of lubricant to use? I am thinking white lithium?

    Any information would be appreciated.

    This is an excellent site!!!

    Thanks

    white lithium works perfectly

pull the door panel and unplug the switches

there are 3 10mm bolts that actually mount it....the window is also bolted to the regulator by a couple of 10mm bolts.....i'd unbolt it and pull it out or tape it in the up position......keeps the weight off....then you can work with the regulator and do whatever needs to be done.......you can raise it up and down with the switch to get it in position for whatever too, don't forget that....don't fight it
....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

There are holes to access the bolts that hold the window in place. If you can move the regulator at all still, they're easy to get to. Having a friend hold the window for you makes things easier. I used a coat hanger when I did mine once...

Take your door panel off, peel off the water guard (most people just trash it...) and look at how things are set up. It's pretty straightforward. The rear passenger regulator is actually the very first wrenching I ever did on my own car. My rear driver's side has been busted for about 2 months now. I just haven't used it.

When you buy the replacement, go to Honda. Don't buy a cheapie online. Trust me... the cheapies don't line up properly, which makes them slow and creates gaps. Just pay the extra for the quality.

Also... Fizz... didn't you mention before that white lithium eats tint? An alternative is powdered graphite. If you don't have tint, and don't plan on getting any, white lithium is perfect. Otherwise, I've heard of good results with the graphite.

Guys, thank you for the information and the words of encouragement.

I do not have tint strangely enough here in AZ, and I bought a used Honda Original regulator online from DAP. It looks OK, just needs to be cleaned up some. I will test it before I mount it permanently.

My 1990 Accord EX 4dr Hampshire Green is the first brand new automobile I ever bought. I waited 3 months for it to come in. I am the only owner and was going to sell it when I acquired another vehicle in 2003. I have been meaning to sell it ever since, and I even let my future brother-in-law use it for 6 months and 7k mile. (now 173K). Well, somebody threw a 10lb rock through the rear window back in November and it has been sitting in my garage since then. As a Fathers day gift this year my Fiancé and her daughter took it and got it fixed as a surprise. Since then I have decided that I can not let her go. My Accord, after 16yrs of ownership is still the smoothest, quietest and best riding car I own.... Sorry for the long story, I think the people here will understand.

This thread is just what I needed to swap out the passenger rear regulator. I plan to complete that project today. Lord willing it won't rain on me cause I don't have a garage to use.

I want to keep that moisture lining in there, but what should I use to glue it? That glue from the factory that originally kept it there is not going to work.

I installed the regulator and motor that I got from the junkyard and after 4 or 5 up and down cycles it broke worse than the one that I had on there formerly.

That crappy plastic on the top of the reguator that directs the cable to the window motor totally shattered.

Heck Yes! I found the "30 day replacement" warranty from the junkyard and I will be taking this craptastic piece of equipment back and getting another one.

I should have just bought a new one from Honda.

I was just trying to be thrifty, and I wasted my time.

You can use "strip caulk" for the moisture barrier. Most Paint/Auto Body supply stores have it.If not silicone sealant always works too but is more permanent...HTH

                        Thanks for the reply, bud.

I think I kinda like the no panel/no window glass look. I feel like I am going to enter a demolition derby. Good thing I just installed my new JDM Snowplow!

Oh yeah, that is a big 10-4 on the "strip caulk".
