ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Oil substance in BOV but not in turbo outlet pipe

I pulled a 14b off of a eclipse about a week or so along with the BOV and when i took off the BOV from the pipe i noticed there was a lil bit of oil looking substance but there was none in the turbo outlet pipe. Is this normal??

Was there a lot or a lil. If its a lil I think it should be fine. Just clean it out. As long as the turbo is still good and within spec you should be good. Might have had a turbo seal leak before which left the oil residue.

o yeah i never thought of that. I have another question, the heat shield was all messed up from coking and the fan blades was hitting it, i think thats why the motor blew, but the seller of the turbo begs to differ. So what i did was re flatten the heat shield the hole is bigger then in supposed to be, but after i flattened it out and put it back together it spins freely, do you think it should be fine for awhile?? I dont plan on keepin the turbo forever, I just want to get everything set and then eventually upgrade to a 16g when i get the money. I would get a heatshield ut i cant find it cheaper then $30

fan blades? heat shield? spins freely? Im lost man. Was the heat shield hitting the turbine blade or the radiator fan blade?

Avoid at all cost. 14b's do not have to have oil in their tract to tell you the whole story. The psi and heat could have simply cleaned the 14b's compressor (it happens). Once the BOV has oil, you know the turbo's compressor had to see oil at one point in its life. You do not have to oil a BOV. Also its best to avoid getting a turbo from a blown engine unless you can isolate the cause of death.

In simpler words, if you are asking these questions...avoid frustration and either learn more about buying a used turbo, or buy a brand new one.

If the turbine blades have been hit before, metal shavings more than likely have went through the seals. The best way to detect turbine damage is to just look at it. Turbines are sharp, if this one has dull spots, it has been damaged. If the damage is fresh, the turbine will have a lighter color around the spot of the damage. If this holds true of your turbo, avoid it at all cost.

If it turns freely, all that means is that there is no bearing damage. However, that will not tell you anything about the seals.
