ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    horrible squeak

i have this horrible squeak whenever i hit a bump and when i turn mostly when i turn though, but someone told me it was my tierod bushing, anyone have any ideas?

Could be a balljoint or tie-rod end in need of some cleaning/greasing or replacement. But, it sounds to me like the bushings in the power steering rack are shot. I don't know if the units on these cars are rebuildable (most aren't), so it might require replacing the whole unit.

    EDIT:
    - Jack the front of the car up
    - Start the car (in neutral!)
    - Have a friend turn the wheels back and forth, while you listen for the source of the sound.

Since tie rods come into play for both steering as well as when you go over a bump I'd look at that first. Put it up on jack stands and check for play.

Might help to have a helper hold the steering wheel tightly while you grip the tire at 9 and 3 and attempt to move it back and forth (with the center of the wheel acting as the pivot.) You want no play at all between the tie rod end and where it meets the knuckle.

While you're at it, grip the tire at 12 and 6 and attempt to move it back and forth (with the center of the wheel acting as the pivot.) You want no play at all between the knuckle and where it meets the upper and lower ball joints.

Another check of ball joints and tie rod ends is to take a pry bar and GENTLY try to pry the knuckle/ball joint or knuckle/tie rod end apart --- go EASY however --- you're just checking for play or easy separability, not actually prying them apart! Again, if the two parts move apart a little replace.

I have probably the same nasty squeak on my 92 EX. I think my dust shield behind the wheel is bent and contacting the rotor. I need to replace my lower (control arm) shock bushings and probably my tie rods too. Does your car have kind of loose steering too? It sounds like bare, scraping, metal on metal every time I move the wheel or go over a bump

I know that sound.. currently have that problem.. I haven't pin pointed the exact place but the tie rod bushings would be a good start.. just start replacing bushings .. they are cheap and easy to replace.. if that don't do it then look into the steering rack. that is just the way I approached the whole annoying problem !!

Yeah, I just finished my H23 Swap and wanted to drive for a while before I put on all these Prothane bushings and redid all the balljoints and inner and outer tie rods, but that noise is impossible to ignore at city speeds. This will be my fourth time installing a full polyurethane kit, so it's no biggie. I saw the dust shield bent out of shape when I went to put my axles back in and rebent it. The noise was gone when I got the car running again, but came back two days later. I'll probably remove those shields completely when I go over the suspension and steering. Screw it for now, nobody can hear it from way behind me
