ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    F22A1 vs F22A6

I have seen that the A6 has a different exhaust manifold, 4-2-1, from the EX and has a bypass intake, 4-8. What else is different on an A6? All the inards appear to be identical... I am kinda curious, because the JDM motor I picked up just happens to be an A6 and I see all kinds of neat stuff hanging off it. How many hp does the stock A6 make? '91 LX/DX make 125, the EX makes 140...

    Tx Chris

    '91 LX just broken in...

    '91 Accord LX 4D AT ~178,250 miles
    '99 Odyssey EX ~89,500 miles
    '05 CR-V EX 4WD AT ~25,500 miles
'07 Element EX 4WD AT ~11,300 miles, Body Colored SC-Wheels...

The camshaft is supposedly a little meaner to make slightly more power, but from what I've heard, its not a significant amount, esp. compared to the low cost of getting a 260 regrind.

Other than that, you seem to have it all. There are only a few changes that result in a base HP of 140

Have you looked through are faqs/tech info stickies?

    a1-125
    a4-130
    a6-140

most everyhting you are looking for is already written/discussed. If you have a new or original question, feel free to ask it.

        Thank you for your feedback...

I am a bit surprised that the bypass intake and the enhanced (vs EX) 4-2-1 exhaust are only making +5 hp. It appears that the engine numbers are different for an A1, A4, and A6. but my Honda factory manual does not indicate any internal differences...

Depending on the year, the EX is the A6... so ten horsepower difference between A1 and A4 is just the exhaust manifold... since the A4 has no IAB. So the IAB and Cams make up another 5 HP.
I think. Correct me if Im wrong guys.

It's been somewhat heavily argued, but I believe we have settled that the A4 exhaust header is superior to the a6's cast manifold design. I don't know why they changes the camshaft for the a6. If it was such a light change, why make any change at all....

I am still surprised by the fact that the Stock A4 Manifold makes up for 10HP. . Crazy. I mean, that IS the only difference between A4 and A1?.

I just checked the engine identification...

My JDM motor is a 201xxxx serial number. This prefix is nowhere listed in my Hona Factory manual... The only A6 should start with 180xxxx... ? Is this from later year Accord or may it be from a 'lude...?

Does your manual cover JDM models?

                    OK OK WHOA!

                    1) If it is an F22A6 it is not JDM. JDM engines do not typically have a number designator at the end. For example, a JDM H22 would be H22A instead of H22A4. There are a couple of exceptions to the rule, such as the B18C5 Integra Type R engine, but generally if it has a number at the end it isn't JDM.

                    2) The HP Ratings are as follows:

                    F22A1 (1990-1993 DX/LX, 10th Anniversary) - 125HP

F22A4 (1990-1991 EX) - 130HP (the F22A4 that became available in the 1992 Prelude carried the same designation (F22A4), but was 5HP stronger than the F22A4 in the Accord hence the confusion on output).

                    F22A6 (1991 SE, 1992-1993 EX, 1993 SE) - 140HP

The difference from F22A1 to F22A4 is that the F22A4 has a tubular 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, and a slightly freer flowing exhaust system that is good for a 5HP increase in power. All other specs are the same. The EX ECU also does not feature a speed limiter/governor.

The F22A6 added the dual stage intake manifold, and a camshaft upgrade to the F22A4 for an additional 10HP. It retained the 4-2-1 exhaust manifold design, but it was a cast version instead of a welded tubular version.

The camshaft in the F22A6 IS bigger than the A1/A4. It provides at least a few thousandths more lift, if not slightly more duration. It is worth the majority of the 10HP increase over the A4, and allows the car to pull further towards redline.

Delta 260 regrinds can be had for about $100 (with your core), but regrinds typically don't have an equal lifespan to a new cam, in a slipper follower setup that the F22AX is equipped with. They seem to be lasting well, but total experience among members on here is still somewhat limited IMO. Caveat Emptor. I don't really expect that you would have a bad experience though.

                    All compression ratios are 8.8:1.

The EX trannies (both auto and manual) have slightly lower gearing and a slightly lower final drive than the DX/LX trannies.

Yeah, I was thinking that the A6 wasn't available in the JDM, but I don't know a whole lot about these engines, so I didn't want to burst his bubble .. . That is unfortunate though, as it sounds like he was lied to about what he was getting.

Thank you for posting all of this information. That is the kind of response that makes this site good.

As long as he didn't pay too much, he is ok.

Thanks though. I am sure it is just a matter of time before someone disagrees.
