ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

i don't know if short-throw shifters really improve the precision of the shifts that much. for me, i've never had any trouble shifting with the stock piece. from experiencing my friends' car's with short shifters, all i really can say is that they shorten the shifts. but this may be a question that brings mixed answers.

They obviously shorten the shifts between gears. That can help somewhat on your quarter mile time but its only a lil.

They just shorten the distance your hand has to travel, decreasing the time it takes to shift. Of course, the difference is prett minimal .. It makes the shifts 'feel' better though .. .

A short throw shifter makes absolutely no difference when hitting gears over a regular shifter. The time it takes to shift is reduced and the throw (amount you hand needs to travel in order to shift) is also reduced. Short throw shifters have a sporty feel to them.

first off, just so everyone is on the same page, a short shifter shortens the THROW (distance the middle of the shifter travels from shift to shift) and the shorter height makes it easier to control

a cut shifter doesn't help much and the throw is actually the same, just that the head/your hand doesn't have to travel as far, but still not a true short shifter

the shorter YOU (the inconsistent, error-prone human) have to shift, the less likely you'll miss a shift, so yes, a short shifter helps without a doubt......you can flick your wrist to shift instead of using your whole arm, which keeps you in a more driver-friendly position.......and a short shifter, when made properly, can give you a more solid shift.......it's counterweight can even help in getting rid of any notchy feeling.....

yeah, they help and can aid in consistency.......

just to make sure: please don't cut off ur shifter to make em shorter....plz...

buy a kit. if that is too expensive, there's a recent post on how one member did it with a cheap part from plumbing store

you forgot to add that a shorter throw also requires more effort

ive had both the dc short shifter and more recently the DIY using a copper plumbing bracket....they feel pretty much the same...it makes your shits a little more solid but its harder to get into 1st, 3rd and 5th when the throw is shortened.... basically, it doesnt give you perfect shifts, its more for the feel. try it, and if you dont like it, take it off, its like a 5 minute job
