ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Steering wheel at odd angle

All right, so this is probably a simple problem, but being new to automotives, I thought I'd ask here:

At the moment, to drive straight, my steering wheel needs to be turned ~30degrees CCW from its center position.

The vehicle (93 EXR) was in an accident last fall and that had apparently necessitated complete replacement of the Passenger Front quarter-panel, suspension, control arm and wheel.

I however have my doubts about the mechanic who did the repairs... Investigating the CEL that the mechanic had said "not to worry about" revealed that the vehicle's O2 sensor was not in fact broken, but left unplugged...

So I wonder if the guy has been cutting corners... It strikes me that when a vehicle is repaired on someone else's insurance, the mechanic should return to the car to the same condition it was in pre-accident... But apparently the fact that this didn't happen didn't perturb the previous owner -.-

    Thanks for the help!

    [Edit]
Being the clever person I am I've forgotten to mention:
Wheel alignment was evidently done after the accident.
Tires have been swapped and rotated in the time since with no change.

Done and done, with no change. (Well, the wheel alignment was only [i]supposedly[//i] done.)

Sounds like your tie-rods need to be adjusted. Turn your steering wheel to where it should be ("TDC"), and look at how far your wheels are turned. You need to adjust your tie-rods until the wheels/tires are pointing straight ... Turning them both the same number of turns (IMPORTANT, or you'll screw up the 'toe'), lengthen your driver-side tie-rod and shorten your passenger-side tie-rod ... Ensure your steering wheel is still straight, and check your wheels/tires again .. . Basically, keep adjusting your tierods (equally) until the wheels/tires are straight when the steering wheel is straight ...

Of course, this is assuming that the vehicle is actually aligned, and that there are no underlying problems ...

Thanks for that tip ^.^ Suspension/steering systems are still a bit new to me. I'll see what I can tie-rod wise next time I have her up in the air.

De nada ... Steering systems can be a little intimidating, but they're really quite simple. If you've got a Haynes or Chilton manual handy, check it out; you can learn about the system in a few minutes. .. And if anything's unclear, just ask.

              1) don't mess with your tie rod ends just yet.....yes, they control where your wheel is pointing in relation to your wheels, but you're undoing the alignment you said you had done....

              2) if you don't have an airbag (you probably do if it's 93) then you can easily pull the wheel and move it that way......if you have one, i'd not bother with it

              3) your alignment guy should have checked the steering wheel anyway.......not all do but most suck severely so it's not surprising......maybe see if he can align it.....you can have an off steering wheel and perfect settings, but it's annoying and something i always made sure was straight.......you want it all to "look" right, not just be right....it makes people feel better......call and see if he will fix it for free

no point in adjusting it yourself, your alignment WILL BE OFF when you're done, so just take it somewhere for a front end alignment (no need to align all 4 and it's 100% doable with everyone's machine if they want to, so keep it in mind if they tell you they have to hook up all 4 heads, or if they can't do just 2, etc, they're lying) and make sure you tell them you want the steering wheel straight, then you want a printout of before and after of the settings.....

Obviously the toe can be screwed up if he's not careful, but if they're adjusted evenly, what'll go out of alignment? I don't see how the camber/caster would be affected .... I'm not saying your wrong, but instead looking for some elaboration ..
