Question about heavy loads

Well my dad takes his mates to work (who are pritty big and heavy) along with a lot of gear and things which all up is pretty heavy, I'm just wandering, would this be doing much wear on the engine? The car seems pretty weak now. Is there anything that could possibly make it run better? The car is due for a oil change, but would that help much? I just don't want the car ending up with problems so I wanna get ahead of them before they happen. TIA

I think it would do more wear to the tranny the engine since hes always hauling something heavy. But both are wearing out but as long as hes not overloading it he should be good and maintaining the car will aslo decrease the wear.

anyway if u are worried about damaging ur car u can always keep on top of it with regular maintenance. things like oil changes, air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter. things like this will keep ur engine running fresh for a while. also look into things like cleaning out the egr and the iacv, or even ur throttle body.

if u are worried about the tranny, most places do a tranny flush for under 100 bucks. they flush all the old fluid out and put brand new stuff in, it makes the car shift a lot smoother and will help with wear and tear on parts.

i think Midas does transmission flushes for 89.99. I had mine done a little while ago, and it def. made a difference...the auto tranny shifted beautifully after. As the other guys said, keeping up with regular maintence is always a plus, although i myself fall behind on oil changes, and fiter changes.

I also know what you mean how the cb7 feels slugish with a lot of weight in theh car. It happens to me when i have a full load or atleast 3-4 people in the car. The cb7 doesn't accelerate well or go very fast for that matter when this occurs, haha.

My suggestion would be to relax and take it easy. If you push to hard you'll blow out an O-ring.

Thanks all , is the transmission flush just draining the fluid and putting new fluid in? if so can't I do that myself? And what type of oil and fluid is best for this engine?

i just replaced my fuel filter last night and wow did it make a difference in my power and accelleration. every 30,000 miles is what the manual says and i understand why. always use genuine Honda parts; they really are what's best for your car.

as far as maintenance, definately replace the spark plugs, air filter and distributor cap and rotor along with your fluids. but wouldn't recommend "flushing" anything in your car. The only flush Honda recommends is for the automatic gearbox: Drain it, fill it, drive through all gears for a few miles, drain it again, then refill it. they say that when you flush things, you could be forcing things back through the transmission that want to be left alone. i dont know.

This is a maintenence(sp?) schedule for the 3rd gen Accord, should it be the exact same with this one? We'll most likely leave the tranny for the pro's

no, if you do that, you will only get a few quarts to come out. The whole system has quite a bit more... like 7-9. what the shop will do is tie in between two lines, so your bad fluid goes into their machine, and is replaced with good fluid. the tranny always has fluid, and it usually takes about an hour.

He lives in New Zealand i dunno if they even get the ridgeline over there unless its called something else. BTW proper maintenance as most of the people have mentioned so far will keep your car running strong. And as Type G said there is a rating on your door jamb that tells you the weights and such.

hey the only thing you need to worry about is yours suspension.... those big mofo's can wear your suspension down......your struts and springs

If you take 2 identical cars, drive one car with just the driver and the other with passengers then the one with passengers will start showing more wear and tear internally prob near the 100k mark. But If it hasnt been a passenger hauler its whole life then I dont think it will make a big difference.

Just start with the basic tune up, oil change, air filter, PCV, plugs and wires, fuel filter... if that doesnt help you may have some carbon build up @ the valves and intake passage ways.

lol yeah, these 2 twins wore down my sisters civic, and her engine is so gutless now which kinda sucks, and has a few problems, that's what got me worried about this car. pic:

What's PCV? and carbon build up in the valves means it will eventually need a engine rebuil? Just don't want this car to end up like that poor civic
