ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Be careful using it... it wears things out more quickly.

The sports mode means that it stays on one gear a lot longer than normal before jumping to the next gear. Example, on normal mode, when u rev up to 2000rpm it changes gear. When sports mode is turned on, it'll only change gears on 3000rpms or so. U can still rev as high with sports mode turns off Hope that info helps I agree completely with deevergote

That button is basically like an "overdrive". It lets you rev higher, like a higher shift point. I basically use it to pass other cars on the highway. You should see the "S" light on your cluster, and if you dont see it is because its not working properly.

Not really like an overdrive. Overdrive is used to give a car better mileage on the interstate. Low RPM's at higher speeds.

Yep a lotta people mistaken overdrive as it will shift higher or it makes your car faster. All it does is do what jdmcb7 says. Plus it puts less strain on the tranny so it will last longer.

It does increase the shift points. I think it also changes the lock up points for the converter since that is electronically controlled also.

It will make the car quite a bit more responsive under part throttle applications because it has a more aggressive shift pattern, and is usually in a better part of the power band.

The upshifting is actually dictated by vehicle speed (i.e. it won't grab 4th gear until you are traveling at least 40MPH, regardless of throttle position, under most circumstances).

I disagree with the durability statement though. It isn't shifting harder or holding max revs longer, it is just a more aggressive program, and everything else adjusts accordingly. I have used mine regularly for 150,000 miles now and haven't had a single problem. The tranny was designed to accomodate it.

Perhaps the accelerated wear I've heard of isn't a result of the sport mode, but of the driving habits of those using it...

That could be. I think maintenance is the biggest issue. I do change my fluid regularly, which I know a lot of people don't. I have seen many non sport equipped trannies fail too, so I am sure that is the gist of it.

I think using Dexron-II is ultimately a large contributor to their failure too. I don't know if it directly kills the tranny, because I use Honda ATF,but it sure does mess up the shift quality. The ancient Honda Tech I know, is not a fan of using that stuff.

Mine goes into 4th at 35mph or better. Anything under it, it won't. Maybe it's just my car tho?

I just changed my manual tranny oil for the second time. I had a Chrysler dealership do it he first time a few months back (remember my failing tranny thread? yeah... that's why) They put gear oil in it!!! It was like lubricating my gears with paste! I put in some GM Synchromesh and it's perfect. Even that 5th gear grind is gone!

i kept mine on all the time. no problems from the tranny. it held my revs to redline or untill I would let off the gas and make it shift. IMO I felt a difference in preformance.
