ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Short-shifter

Are short-shifters worth it? If so, what brand do you recommend for the price range of $50-100?

And what does the flywheel do?

    #2
If u know how to weld ill send you a fushigi short shifter i bought for 55$. It just needs to be welded together. 20$ shipped and it can be yours

The flywheel is a large steel or aluminum disc. It acts as a balance weight for the engine, dampening engine vibrations caused by the firing of each cylinder and provides a surface that the clutch can contact. The flywheel also has teeth around its circumference for the starter motor to engage and crank the engine.

adding on to what maple said..the flywheel also keeps the pistons in motion after the power stroke because of its weight..best place to learn abt cars if u dont have much knowledge abt them is howstuffworks.com ...they usually have illustrations and flash animations to better help u understand it..or u can always just ask most people here..

From what I've learned on here, there's a way to make your own "short shift kit" from cheap parts that doesn't cost hardly anything.

        Here's a DIY for it...Short Shift Kit

I found it here BTW so have fun!!

I love my Neuspeed piece. I just did the shifter basket flip to lower the height a little bit to avoid clearance issues.

Well worth the $35 I spent for it used from a member here.

I did the DIY short throw shifter that's on here. It's good and cheap if your on a budget. It only shortens the throw though, not the actual shifter height. However, it still made a big difference. But overall, yea, I'd say they are worth it, depending on how important that aspect of your car is.
PM me if you found this!!

              thanks everyone

So basically, we're replacing these brackets and moving it up.

                Then we're bending this forward:

If I don't have a drill press, will a hand drill suffice?

The brackets you see are the new ones.

                      No drilling required.

The Pspec unit is top notch. It is $180.00 for just the shifter shipped and looks to be worth every penny (I haven't installed mine yet).

There is also a group buy on here somewhere that my provide you with a discount.

$180 is a bit steep compared to the DIY though...

                              Yep.

The DIY will cost you $5 including the coffee you buy on the way to Home Depot.
