    Oil leaks

Just want to sort of get an idea from you guys. For those of you that have oil leaks. Where do you have them? Can you tell where your car is leaking oil from? Mine just recently(4 months ago) started to leak oil. Its a 93 ex with 139k. The engine(jdm f22a) has less miles, not sure on an exact number, but I know its less than 100k. I have an oil leak coming from what looks like between the head and block towards the front of the engine, next to the timing belt cover, but i cannot trace it. Now I've been chasing this thing down trying to pinpoint it . Basically I'm trying to figure out what the most common spot is for our cars to leak oil. I did a search but pretty much came up inconclusive. so what do you guys say? Where is or where do you think your cb7 is leaking oil?

I know my valve cover gasket is leaking, but I'm gonna replace it when I go to turbocharge my car.
    Hi, I'm Shippo and I have a problem. I keep buying CB7's.

i have some small cracks in my oil pan..just found them today...you could always check there.... if the pan is oily..wipe it off to discover the leak.

if you suspect its coming from inbetween the head and the block near the timing cover, clean the area with a degreaser (simple green works great) and when ever you come back from a drive, take a look and see if that will help you further pinpoint your oil leak. Most commom oil leaks are the valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket. There may be another common one but i think thats it for now.

Yeah I changed out my vcg a while ago. I used a felpro vcg. It says on the box thats it a permadry seal and requires no sealant. Actaully it says on the box not to use any sealant at all. However in the haynes&chiltons it says use sealant. wtf? What type of valve cover gaskets do you guys think is best? Should or should not use sealant with a felpro?

I just use most of the time whatever the autopart stores have in stock, I don't really favor brand on just replacing one gasket. I'd also just use some nameless gasket sealer they have it seems to work well and I've had the same tube for a while. lol

If it is comming from your TB area it could be many things. First off a easy replacement would be the valve cover gasket. You should clean all the oil off the engine so you can find the culrpit.

If thats not it id look into the camshaft oil seal.

              Hope it helps

The one big thing I have noticed is very important to keep gaskets from leaking is making sure that you torque down all the nuts evenly. If you have one side of the valve cover tightened more then another, it will leak. And I have heard many, many positive things about Felpro gaskets from a few mechanic friends.

You should NOT use sealant with the Permadry Felpro. The reason your Chilton's says that is probably because it was first published years ago before anyone even heard of Permadry gaskets. Gasket makers like Victor and Felpro are continuously improving gasket designs and your gasket is specifically designed to be used without silicone. The head on your car has machined gasket surfaces for the spark plug tubes and the main valve cover seal also called a "worm" gasket because the gasket fits in a machined groove around the circumfrence of the cover. Just make extra sure that the gasket surfaces are completely clean and dry before you install.

First wash your motor so that everything is clean. Then go from there and try to find the fresh oil leak. My first guess would be checking your distributor O-ring, very common for these cars. They have to O-rings one inside the distributor housing and one at the distributor shaft. If theres oil inside the distributor change it ASAP.

Its the cam seal...which happens to be the most common leak on these motors.

I just replaced the leaky front main crank seal on my f22, that and the valve cover gasket and pan gasket were all leaking. For good measure I had to do the balancer shaft seal, the cam seal, and I had done the rear main when I had the trans out for the new clutch. Now at 235,000, it doesn't leak a drop!!!
