I'd appreciate some advice from those who've done a head gasket replacement before. I've seen lots of general how-to's on this but I'm still lacking some detailed info. I don't want to screw up the job now . . .
I've cleaned off the deck on the block -- but it's nowhere near as clean as the refurbed head I bought (obviously, since it was resurfaced). I've scraped the block mating surface with a plastic scraper, carb cleaner, rags, paper towels but it still looking grungy.

-For guys who have done this before - does this look "typical" for a block ready to roll, or is there still work to do?
-Upon close inspection, it looks to me like there is a very thin, clear plastic film on the block mating surface. I can see several index marks that are symmetrical around the cylinders. Does this need to be removed/cleaned up...or is this ok to put the gasket on top of?
