ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    What rack to use?

I got a 1992 honda accord ex 5 speed and i am getting the rack replaced and inner and outer tie rods. I am purchasing the rack locally and only have 3 choices really. I have ruled out getting a cardone rack as no one has anything good to say about them.

The choices are duralast, atlantic automotive or masterpro.

Has anyone had any experience with these?

It's very possible that all of them are made by the same manufacturer, honestly. I have no experience with any of them personally, as I've never had to replace my rack. I'd see which comes with the best warranty and go with that. It'll be a pain to swap it out if it fails, but at least you won't have to pay again.
I'd go with Duralast myself, but that's mainly because I have an Autozone within walking distance.

Autozone parts are not the best quality BUT they do have the best warranty practice, i still have parts registered in warranty since 2003. Also i worked at Autozone and know that unless the sales person does not input the warranty it will always be there, Oreilly can overide warranty and transfer between individuals so the personel can use your warranty by simply changing it over to their name; i had acquaintances that worked at oreilly and this was the reason why i stoped doing business with them.

I just bought a remanufactured (by their OEM supplier) rack from Honda that includes the inner tie rod ends and boots for about $200 (my local dealer knocks 20% off list price). There is a $150 core charge which I avoided because I already had a used rack to turn in.

Part number is 06536-SM4-515RM, $193.59 from Majestic Honda (www.hondaautomotiveparts.com)

What's wrong with your rack? Is it just torn boots? There are DIYs here on taking apart and rebuilding your rack n pinion. Could save you some money just FYI.

My Rack is leaking on both sides. Can't order any online as already scheduled time to do the work in a few days. Have to choose from shops nearby. Its really between atlantic auto or masterpro. Duralast is just an a1 cardone rack.

I rebuilt one myself for my wagon, but the OEM parts alone ran $150 or more including the inner tie rods, boots, etc.). If you use aftermarket parts it could be done cheaper.

Just gotta throw this out there. I was low on funds and needed a rack. Duralast was the cheapest I could find. It has been in the car for 3 years with no issues. But, the car doesn't run anymore, so I can't tell you how long it would last.
