ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Ignition/Distributor problems

    Year: 1991
    Make: Honda
    Model: Accord Station wagon EX

    Backstory:

Alright so earlier this year i bought this car. It had a blown motor and some wires were hacked. I bought an f20a DOHC motor and dropped it in. It ran fine for about a month and a half when all of a sudden I went to start the car it wouldnt start. It had some sort of chip thing sitting right below the steering column which was spliced into some wires, well turns out the chip thing shorted so I basically had to hotwire to get home. The next day I took out the thing and got it running and starting again. From that day i was throwing a CEL. I had codes 9, 15 and a few others that I cant remember. Well last wednesday I pulled the harness and fixed all of the distributor wires. It cleared 3 of the 4 codes i had. When i checked i had code 9 still. Well today I pulled ecu fuse and checked codes and now i have 9, and 15 again. Car runs and drives, sometimes when I start it it'll, for lack of words, skip a beat. It'll then drop to idle RPMs, but will have a slight miss, and when I start to drive it will jerk pretty badly, I'll have to turn it off then on and itll run properly again. I'm going to be checking the ignition timing and ignition switch today.

    Question:

I guess what I'm wondering is if you had the code what fixed it for you. Also I've searched and can not find a diagram so that i can check the CYP sensor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Both codes point to a failing distributor, I believe. Replace it, or borrow a known working one and see if that fixes your problem (don't forget to reset the ECU and drive the car long enough for it to enter closed loop mode.) Use a distributor from an H23A1.

If it's not the distributor, it's likely the wiring itself. If someone hacked it up previously, there's not much anyone here can do without actually seeing it in person. If it's borked beyond repair, grab a replacement from a junkyard. It'll be a pain in the ass, but less so than trying to repair someone else's rat's nest.

Thank you for the response. It was not the distributor. I stumbled upon it accidentally while testing voltage of the fatter plug. While inspecting i accidentally pulled out the white separator and notices one of the pins was pushed in so i pushed it back into place started it up and wall la no check engine light and runs like a dream!

Which plug are you talking about?

I'd keep a spare ECU just in case. I have 4 of them here for that year, and ALL 4 OF THEM have a CEL code 9 error. Opened up the ECU and ALL 4 OF THEM have the same exact burned out capacitor, lol. Those ECU's are known for that. I still haven't managed to figure out if it is a manufacturer error or is it something that can be prevented, so I'd just keep one handy anyway.
