Hello all,
I've got a '92 Accord LX that must have led an interesting life before I purchased it a year and a half ago... It's got a lot of character, you could say.
I've put a good amount of work into it and I'm still learning the ins and outs but one of its behaviors has puzzled me since day 1: if I interact with my vehicle in certain ways (i.e. open or close a door, open or close the trunk, lock or unlock the doors with the switch, lock the door using a key), its tail lights and front turn signals start to flash in a steady pattern for 45 seconds or so. Also, sometimes this does not happen but I have yet to identify what set of conditions leads to absence of this behavior. Right now, I'm attributing it to a loose connection in whatever system is causing this.
I suspect that there might some sort of alarm system that's at least partially hooked up. Thankfully, aside from an audible click from somewhere behind the instrument panel, this is a silent behavior.
I'm afraid I don't really have anything to compare my car to as it's the only 4th generation Accord I've handled... I have no idea whether this is due to a Honda part or something a previous owner added. There's also a red LED wired in above the vent to the left of the instrument panel. Sometimes it's steady on, sometimes it's blinking on and off. If I disconnect two brown wires that normally hang down next to the hood release, the LED no longer blinks.
The last mysterious component is a red pushbutton switch mounted just above the hood release lever. I've pressed it before but it doesn't seem to have any function.
Which of these behaviors/components are normal? How can I stop the mysterious blinking?
As a separate issue, my doors used to lock when I turned the key twice in the driver side lock assembly... I took off the door panel last week to put the window back into its guide and upon reassembly, the power lock switch on the interior functioned normally but the driver side lock will no longer secure all 4 doors. I'm going to pull it apart again tonight but is there anything in particular I should be looking for?
I apologize for the wall of text; I'll grab some pictures (and maybe video once it's dark enough to show the lights blinking) later to show what I'm seeing. Please let me know if I can provide any additional detail or if there are any photographs that might be useful to figure out what's happening.
Thank you!
