ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

92 Accord: Demonic possession? (Electrical issues)

    Hello all,

I've got a '92 Accord LX that must have led an interesting life before I purchased it a year and a half ago... It's got a lot of character, you could say.

I've put a good amount of work into it and I'm still learning the ins and outs but one of its behaviors has puzzled me since day 1: if I interact with my vehicle in certain ways (i.e. open or close a door, open or close the trunk, lock or unlock the doors with the switch, lock the door using a key), its tail lights and front turn signals start to flash in a steady pattern for 45 seconds or so. Also, sometimes this does not happen but I have yet to identify what set of conditions leads to absence of this behavior. Right now, I'm attributing it to a loose connection in whatever system is causing this.

I suspect that there might some sort of alarm system that's at least partially hooked up. Thankfully, aside from an audible click from somewhere behind the instrument panel, this is a silent behavior.

I'm afraid I don't really have anything to compare my car to as it's the only 4th generation Accord I've handled... I have no idea whether this is due to a Honda part or something a previous owner added. There's also a red LED wired in above the vent to the left of the instrument panel. Sometimes it's steady on, sometimes it's blinking on and off. If I disconnect two brown wires that normally hang down next to the hood release, the LED no longer blinks.

The last mysterious component is a red pushbutton switch mounted just above the hood release lever. I've pressed it before but it doesn't seem to have any function.

Which of these behaviors/components are normal? How can I stop the mysterious blinking?

As a separate issue, my doors used to lock when I turned the key twice in the driver side lock assembly... I took off the door panel last week to put the window back into its guide and upon reassembly, the power lock switch on the interior functioned normally but the driver side lock will no longer secure all 4 doors. I'm going to pull it apart again tonight but is there anything in particular I should be looking for?

I apologize for the wall of text; I'll grab some pictures (and maybe video once it's dark enough to show the lights blinking) later to show what I'm seeing. Please let me know if I can provide any additional detail or if there are any photographs that might be useful to figure out what's happening.

    Thank you!

The flashing does indeed sound like the effects of a security system. Poke around under the dash for wires that don't look original (though there were OEM, or at least dealer-option alarm systems available for these cars...) The door lock behavior may also be related.
If the system was an aftermarket install, you'd need to find out what it is and where it goes. Otherwise, there are likely quite a few things that the installer could've altered (so anyone here would likely only be able to guess... especially if the installer was a clueless amateur!)

The button under the hood could be anything as well. That's definitely not a factory part, so who knows what the intended function may have been. It could be a kill switch, or a switch for an underhood light... or pretty much anything else. If there are wires attached to it, trace them and see where they go!

      Exorcism complete(?)

Thank you for clearing things up for me; I followed the wires behind the red button and found a mystery box.

      Here's what I found.

No more strange flashing (interior or exterior) and everything still seems to work. I'll keep the box around in case I discover that it was secretly wired into an important system but I'm already thinking of ways to re-purpose the button and connections.

In addition, I found out why my locks weren't working -- I choose to believe that the connector was knocked loose. More likely, I forgot to plug it back in last time I had my door pulled apart. One part of the wire harness had fallen out of sight so I think I just neglected it. Anyway, that's working again too.

Thanks again! I'll see if I can break something interesting next time.
