ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Power Steering Pump Rebuild

Okay, so I thought I would try to be useful again with a follow-up post about a DIY that I followed & the results came out perfect.

Ever since I purchased my CB I had the well known "whining sound" when I turned my steering wheel to make a turn (both left and right). You could describe the sound as a cat or dog being murdered under your hood while you make a turn hahaha. Another issue I noticed was that I would have a ton of bubbles inside the reservoir for the power steering fluid making me think there was a leak or air was getting in the lines somehow. For the longest time I thought that the power steering fluid was low but, that wasn't the case.

Well, I eventually found information on here stating that power steering pumps can last a very long time but, it is the rubber seals inside the pump that go bad which can cause a harsh steering or the whining sound.

After doing some research I found the pump reseal kit at my local Autozone for our CBs. Before I purchased the repair seal kit I called a local Honda dealer and got some hilarious information. I asked the parts manager if they sold the Power Steering Pump rebuild kit and he literally says, " I have been a mechanic for 35 years and I have never heard of anybody doing such a thing." I imagine he said that so he could make a good sale because his next sentence was asking if I wanted to buy a new Power Steering Pump but, I said no thanks.
Despite the useless information from a Honda employee, I ordered the power steering repair kit from Autozone and followed the DIY by RyanD & H311RA151N. The DIY was perfect, straight-forward and so easy even a caveman could do it. (If he had a CB7 of course.)
After replacing the rubber seals for the Power Steering Pump the noise was no longer present & my turning ability felt improved. If anyone is having the same problem I would most definitely follow the DIY below.

Honda doesn't necessarily sell a kit, but one can buy all the seals individually. I did this many years ago on Ruby (90 LX) just because it had started leaking at the seams - still going strong. I have another one on the shelf for the next one that starts leaking.

A good source for at least looking up Honda parts, and buying them at 30% off, is www.hondaautomotiveparts.com It can also come in handy when trying to figure out how things go together if you don't have a service manual. An OEM manual is the best tool you can have for your car.
