ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Should just fit right in though if you want you could wait and get one from a 92 or 93 and that way have abs and airbag lights still I would do that and sell or junk the 91 cluster

IIRC 90/91 are different from 92/93. The main difference that you have to worry about is the manufacturer of the cluster, if you have a Nippon Seiki "NS" you can't swap in a Nippon Denso "ND".

Soo it wouldn't work or? The reason y im changing is jus cuz the cel on my current one doesn't turn on when I turn the switch to on so I can't tell if I even have codes from my cel or not..& only half of it lights up at night

Sounds like you need to replace some bulbs.

Maybe this can shed some light on the subject.

Like dj_ender implied, if you're already going as far as to change out the clusters you might as well change out the bulbs. That's the easiest option.

                    check your grounds

                    AND

check the harness where it plugs into the cluster on the side of the temp/fuel guages, make sure you didn't break any wires there

i did and both my fuel and temp guages would not work until i found the wires i had damaged

Probably a loose connector. Did you open, or drop, the cluster?

From my understanding of clusters, at least one plug shouldn't have plugged in.
Use your old cluster and replace the bulbs in question on your original cluster with known working bulbs from the JY cluster. I'm pretty sure (the internet will correct me) you can run & drive a Cb7 without a cluster, I did that with my EG. When you test everything before you reinstall, you'll need to plug in the hazard button for the turn signals to work. Also, plug in the dimmer knob so you can see if the cluster illuminates at night when headlights are turned on.

I've seen and experienced instrument clusters go whacky or dials not work at all because of bad grounds and or low voltage.

As for the no start. You may have drained your battery from messing with the cluster. Get a multimeter (they are like $5 can be invaluable if you learn how to read all the settings on it) to check the voltage on your battery, less than 12 volts could cause this. If the battery is ok, check your terminals. If the terminals look good, check your grounds! Take off your ground wire and wire brush the whole eyelid and also where it attaches to the chassis. Start with the ground wire closest to your battery and work your way to the ground on the transmission. Then move on to any other wire that serves as a ground in the engine bay.

If this doesn't work, push start that mother trucker to your local auto store and have them check the battery/alternator with their box.

Also, if the wiring under the dash (above the driver's feet) is molested, check the grounds there. If you have an alarm hooked up I would highly suspect that. This is the way I've checked suspect alarm systems. I have an extra ignition (electrical end) that I would plug in and turn with a screwdriver to rule out the alarm. A used one from the JK is $20-30.

Good luck and get back to us.

Yes I opened it to switch out the cel light and the glass protector thing was off so I may have moved the needles a little, is that bad? Lol

I will check the wires on the connectors c if I can find any that are bad.. Also now that I have it out do u guys know which bulbs are the ones that light it up at night? (The ones u control with the dimmer) cuz on my cluster I have only the left half illuminates at night and I figureits worth a shot to change the bulbs out with the one I picked up from the jy.

Oh andThanx for the input guys, appreciate it!

I thought so too but I checked my fuses and it was my starter relay fuse burnt out. . I replaced it and it started but now its that dam temp gauge and also its not reading my gas right cuz I know im not on full. Lol but I will check the connectors for the cluster and re install it in the morning and let u guys know what happens.

So is this happening on your original cluster, or the one you bought?
