Coolant Leak Please Help It's My Newspaper Delivery Car 7 Days A Week

Hello I have a 1990 HONDA ACCORD 201,000 miles f22A1 EX there is coolant leaking around the drivers side lower part of the engine no idea how or where it is coming from it looks like it is pouring from one opening almost like a bolt opening or something? I didn't even know there was any coolant hoses back there. If anyone can post some help as soon as possible it would be greatly appreciated thank you. Also it is near the back side of the engine. The coolant leak looks like it's coming from two holes somewhere in that area and sometimes it leaks pretty fast and at times it doesn't leak at all.

Here is a picture of the possible area : http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php...7#post49724177

Thank you Cloud for the prompt response any ideas on the price for replacing timing belt/water pump and how long can I go like this? Also is there any DIY'S? Also I purchased this car at 176,000 miles not knowing when the timing belt or water pump was changed I see no sticker of when it was done ether. Also if it is leaking from the seep hole for the water pump like I said it comes and goes so and it just drips like literally I can start it up and it leaks a few minutes later it doesn't leak at all.

Sorry, I deleted my previous post, as I didn't see the second image you posted. Ignore the idea I mentioned of the water pump and weep hole, as that is not relating to the area you have circled in the second image (well it wouldn't be causing coolant to end up where you circled).

The area you circled is on the back of the block, and there isn't any coolant that runs through there really for where you circled. Any coolant on that part of the block would have be coming from higher up, and upon inspecting the image carefully, there are a couple hoses from the heater core behind the intake manifold (that goes to the black water pipe) break. They are hard to access, well hidden, and often forgotten to be changed until they leak.

Reminds me of the first coolant hoses I had to replace on my cb7 after getting it.... while its 95*F out in the blistering sun, and the only tool I had available is a plier/multi-tool, and it took well over 30 minutes to replace those hoses.

Hmm I can't say for sure it's accurate on the diagram but it is definitely more so near those two holes on the second picture so what exactly could that be? Also when I saw it leaking it was literally dripping from the bottom second hole in the picture.

I edited my previous reply since you posted, there are coolant hoses above that area where I'm pretty sure the leak is coming from and dripping down the block to the point you see it dripping from.

Hmm I see also one more thing Cloud what would cause my coolant hoses to start leaking? Past few weeks I've had the upper radiator hose leaking and both the fast idle control valve leaking and the air idle control valve coolant hose leaking changed those all but the upper radiator hose none of them are leaking the upper radiator hose just had to be tightened is there any particular part that would cause a lot of pressure on the cooling system and cause it to find weak spots to leak coolant?

Rubber deteriorates with age, exposure to UV, and hot/cold cycles; if your unsure of the age of your coolant hoses, its best to replace them. Often times the hose clamp has been on the same hose for so long that the rubber compresses over time thus losing its equivalent clamping force on the connector, and getting small leaks. Also I've never been a fan of the OE hose clamps, and prefer to use the screw to tighten/loosen types. Factory radiator cap is 1.1bar, or equivalent to 16 (15.9541512 to be exact) psi, meaning your hose clamps have to apply at least that much pressure through the rubber of the hose on the 'nipple' to be operating properly to prevent leaks.

True. But I will say every single part was replaced including the Honda OEM clamps straight from the dealer how many coolant hoses are directly in that area of the leak in the second picture?

UPDATE : I see that the leak is coming from above those two holes in the picture does anyone have a idea of what that hose is and how many coolant hoses there are in that area and possibly a part number please? Its a hose somewhere near above those two holes witch is drivers side rear engine.

Did someone recently service the water pipe or take it out of the engine block? Cause I just had a leak right at that area and it turned out to be the water pipe gasket that wasn't sealing.

Its part number 23 here, but it also could be the hose. I was able to feel with my hand where the water was coming from cause it was still leaking. If it is the hose, you're probably gonna have to remove the intake manifold to get to it. Not so with the water pipe o-ring. For that you just need to remove the thermostat housing and the single bolt holding the pipe down to the block.

There is one coolant hose that you should be thinking of, and it is right above the two holes that you have circled in the picture. Its not a small hose by any means.

Verify that it is the hose and not the pipe, cause each of those require different methods to repair them.

From what I can see it is a pretty big hose and it stretches back a bit to the right side of the engine looks like it enters the inside of the car on the other side like the cabin I can't say for sure that's where its leaking though because the hose itself looks like it is in pretty good shape. Is there another coolant hose that it could possibly be around that area? Also no service to water pump pipe recently. I must say though it is the weirdest coolant leak that I have ever dealt with just in the past twenty minutes it leaked three times now with it running it is not leaking at all totally dry. Would it be possible that high pressure could be finding the weak spots to leak out of in the cooling system? If so what would most likely be the cause of it? Couldn't a bad PVC valve cause high pressure or a radiator cap?

There are no other hoses in that area, and I would suspect that it is indeed the hose that is leaking.

What you should do is the next time you see it leaking, jack it up (get some stands too) and physically feel where the water is coming from. Don't touch the downpipe as that can be hot as a mofo.

I had a leak from the same area but it was just the coolant pipe gasket not sealing. I could feel the water coming out in that area with my hand.

Its probably not your water pump cause if it was then it would be dripping from the timing cover.
