ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Suspension options

Hey guys I'm getting ready to get my suspension done bushing shock the whole ten yards. So my question is what would be some good shocks I could get on my 93 EX. I wanna stay away from coil overs. I also would like 1.5' drop but no more than a 2' drop another thing is I'm looking at a set of 16 inch rims so I wanna make sure I have clearance and all that jazz. Just wanna make sure I get a good comfortable set up

Please use the search function. Every question you have has already been answered.

Just so you know, you will need lowering springs to go with your aftermarket struts if you want to lower your car any amount. You asked what would be some good struts; well, there's more to lowering a car than what struts to choose. So you will need to search for which springs will lower your car the amount you want.

As for fitment, we would need to know the width of the rim, the offset, and the size of the tires that you plan on running. Otherwise, we are just guessing at whether the rims will fit or not.

However, a lot of people will recommend Koni's as a good option for struts. I, personally, run Tokico Illuminas and they have held up really well over the past five years. Moving on, you will need to decide which lowering springs you want. There are a lot to choose from, but stick to a reputable company and a known brand. The generic lowering springs from no-name companies are not the safest choice. Please, do not go with the cheapest way, it is unsafe.

Also, ensure that all of your bushings and balljoints are in good condition. You do not want one of these failing after you just spent money on lowering your car. And, you also need to decide if you want to run a camber kit to correct the amount of negative camber that you will induce by lowering your car.

Rim size has nothing to do with what suspension you can run. The overall diameter of your wheel/tire combination should be the same. Doesn't matter if you're running 14" or 18".

Then never go back to that shop because they have no idea what they are talking about. Rim size inly matters if you are trying to go too small for your brakes and the caliper hits the wheel. The offset of the wheel could play an effect on what you can run.

That will only make a difference if they put the wrong size tires on your wheels. Some shops really are that bad...

I think what the shop was reffering to was the offset of the wheels. If you lower your car 1.5 to 2 inches and you try and use an 18 or bigger wheel with a deep ofset you will run into issues with the rear quarters hitting the wheels every time you hit a bump. Then you will have to either roll hte fenders or pay to have them extended. With 16's you should be fine as long as you are not running huge tires on them. Coilover versus shocks and springs is definately a topic that you need to look up. It all preference.

My brothers civic has skunk struts and springs... not sure of the drop measurement but its pretty low.. rides like a shopping cart. I wanted to lower my car until I actually drove a lowered car for the first time.. I'd spend more money on making the suspension better before lowering it. Sway bar/strut bars etc. I'm using energy bushing on a 97 accord ex sway bar with front&rear strut bars and enjoy that much better. Just an idea from me though.. lowered cars do look nice though.
