ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    junkyard turbo build

Has anybody built a junkyard turbo setup for the h22 or well any honda motor I suppose. Ive seen a bunch of turbo volvos at many junkyards and I was thinking i really just only want like a 30-60hp gain on my h22a. i figured a very light turbo setup can do that for me. Does anybody have any input on this idea? These are my final horsepower goals for my car. If I want more power it wouldnt make sense to do it on ff setup id just get a rwd. Looking to build a reliable setup and it would make sense to use stock parts from a different car afterall those cars were made to be reliable.

also how do i know if a different fuel injector will fit in my car. i would be looking to pull everything from a volvo v70 probably

There is nothing in the jy that will fit without modifying it , which means you will lose reliability. If all your looking for is 30-60 hp, then just get I/H/E some type s cams, tune.

Junkyard turbos can be done, at least on an f22. The first gen DSM turbo manifold can be made to fit. Then you could use that turbo as well. Run some intercooler and turbo piping. Then, make sure you tune it as well.

However, you are still gonna spend a decent amount on it.

Or, you could just install a nitrous set up. http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=160985
This thread has a member's ride with an h22a on nitrous. It is built, but you could still run a nitrous set up, get the horsepower when you want it and have constant reliability. Plus, it looks really cool when you purge the nitrous lines.

The F22A is easy to build a junkyard turbo kit for, as the DSM manifold will fit perfectly if you redrill the mounting holes. H22A, not so easy. You'd have better luck just buying a cheap Chinese turbo kit on ebay (though I'd suggest at least upgrading the wastegate.)

Honestly, I wouldn't boost a stock engine. The pistons are made of rather fragile cast aluminum, and you will break a ringland. A small turbo that you'd likely find on most junkyard cars will most likely create a HUGE amount of heat (the smaller the turbo, the greater the heat... and the more often you'll be in boost...)
Turbo is going to be more expensive than you expect, regardless. Even if you got a free turbo, you'd have to fabricate charge piping, buy a wastegate, get larger injectors (DSM 450cc injectors are common on junkyard builds), and get an ECU that can be tuned (and then tune it... there's no way around that... you HAVE to tune the ECU, or you'll blow your engine.)

If you want to go with a low-boost turbo setup, get yourself a cheap kit (or better, buy yourself a CB7 kit from treadstone.com, and ask if you can have a manifold made for an H22A), invest in some Mahle Gold Series pistons for your engine, and find yourself a professional tuner that is familiar with tuning boosted Hondas. It'll likely cost you about $3000-$4000 in the end, but you'll have a car that will be reliable enough to be fun. Otherwise, you're on your way to having a rather expensive paperweight.
