ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Apexi VAFC Wiring Harness Help!

I'm planning on buying the apexi VAFC with this wiring harness
    BoomSlang Harness

it states that it works for 1992-95 honda accords
    I have a 1991 Honda accord.

Are the pin outs the same?

I can't seem to find one for 1991.

    Help!

I believe they are the same, yes. However, such a controller is pretty much a waste of money. There is little to gain from it, and you could potentially do damage.

I see, What is my best option to pulling information from the car without having to go to a dyno. I do not mean using a scanner for CEL codes.

I want to maximize fuel efficiency on my accord.

Are there any good stickies you guys know about?
Please point me in the right direction!

The "V" in V-AFC stands for VTEC. If your Accord has the factory F22A, then you do not have a VTEC engine. You should also probably choose not to trust a company that can't get the year models for the generation that they're supporting correct, either.

But like deevergote said, you are likely to do damage by just changing values recklessly. Spend the money you would have spent on the harness and the V-AFC and follow the 30 hp thread.

There are numerous free or inexpensive tuning options using a 92-95 Civic ECU, "chipping" it and installing a tuning program. There are tons of others as well, check hondata.com for a list of different ecu's that can be used. ECU's can be had for as little as $20, and doing the chipping yourself is fairly inexpensive. Many people will even sell a pre-chipped and basemapped ECU for much less that you would believe. Choose wisely.

I am curious what all the hate on these devices is about.

Basically, the way you are supposed to use them is to make logged runs, identify areas of lean/rich, and adjust to get a better air/fuel mix.

Its not like these things control ignition timing or anything else. Its does help dial in a better "tune" and most gains seem to be made in the mid range when hondas tend to run rich anyways.

I dunno. I see how people could ruine an engine running one, but I also see the advantages if you are absoloutely terrified of dealing with a chipped ecu and custom tune.

I have seen people make 18-24whp in certain parts of the rpm range, however, most peak gains are in the ball park of 5-7whp. For the money, its hard to beat if applied correctly. Also, in the Honda game, its kind of silly to spend a couple hundo on one of these babies when you can get a chipped ecu ready to tune for less.

Either way the tuner is going to charge about the same, so, yeah. I dont really get these for Hondas, but, for other vehicles with literally NO tuning software under 1k, i get it.

Even though a real tune looking at everything will be 100x better, keeping your AFR's in line is a great starting point, and you can generally accomplish that with these-which is why I don't really get the hate.

The hate is mainly aimed at the lack of functionality, and the ease with which the uneducated "tuner" can ruin an engine. As said, a chipped ECU can be had for the same price or less. The necessary datalogging tools to properly tune either are the same.
For cars that have no other options, or at least no others within a reasonably similar price range, perhaps they're not bad. I have a Diablosport tuner for my CTS-V, in fact. Still, I didn't mess with the tune. My car is stock otherwise, and the device came with a specific base tune for a bone-stock 2006 CTS-V. It also reflashed the stock ECU, rather than acting as a piggyback unit.

A piggyback controller like this is pretty old-tech at this point. It's like going through pains to fire up an oldschool Gameboy.
