ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Brake Swap

    Hey,

I did some searching on here and couldn't really find what I was looking for but I would like to do rear discs and I would like to get them from a simliar year prelude so I would just swap the whole set over. I was just wondering if there was anyone who has done this and are there any problems I would run into that would make it impossible for it to work. I am pretty sure that prelude is a 4 lug just cause I want to keep my wheels and hopefully not have to do too much fabrication.

    Thanks

You don't have to do any fabrication if you use the rear knuckles, calipers and rotors from a '90-'93 Accord that came with rear discs. The Prelude rear knuckles simply will not fit.

And unless you have a '91-'93 wagon, it's dimensionally wrong. The control arms are spaced apart by an additional 50mm on the later model Accords and wagons via the with of the knuckle and crossmember. If you change the width of the knuckle and not the crossmember then your suspension is not moving freely like it should. You'll wer bushings VERY quickly that way.

You have a 91, so a "similar year Prelude" wouldn't even work. Those are the 3rd gen Preludes... 4x100 bolt pattern.

If you want rear discs, get rear discs from a 92-93 EX. Don't go messing with brakes from other cars. Brake balance is important, and if you end up getting larger rotors and/or stronger calipers in the rear, you'll be increasing your risk of spinning out... as if you just yanked on the e-brake to stop. You don't want to increase braking power in the rear without doing so in an equal manner in the front.

Also, you should get a 40/40 proportioning valve from an Integra (I forget the year and model, but you can find that by searching the various rear-disc swap DIY threads on this site.) Since you don't have ABS like the rear-disc-equipped models do, you'll need to use a prop valve made for a non-ABS vehicle with rear discs.
