ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Gas tank size?

I've been looking around and can't seem to find anything. I know our cbs are supposed to have a 17 gallon tank. When I went to fill up last week it only let me put in 11 gallons. Now there was some gas in it but not 6 gallons. So I'm wondering if it actually holds 17 or if it's just a myth. Going on a road trip from st Paul Minnesota to Madison wisconsin. Should be fun. Also Go Ducks!!!!

What makes you think there wasn't 6 gallons in there? Just because the gauge says 1/8th full doesn't mean you're almost out. These are 20+ year old cars. Sensors, gauges, and other stuff start to break and malfunction. Gas tanks don't change size. You should always trip your odometer after each fill up. I like to fill up right around 300 miles on a tank. I know I can go more but it's just a personal preference. Odds are your gauge isn't 100%.

I guess I'm not positive but I'm at about 400 miles on this tank and the needle is right above the e. But I only put 11 gallons in. And the gauge was at the same point. So I'm lost.

400 miles to a tank is pretty good. I can stretch to 450 if I work the highways.

It is a 17 gallon tank. Ive gone as far as 490 miles to my full tank before my gas light came on and i had to fill up. My light came on right at the E and i still drove another 30 miles to where i was going..your gauge is off and most likely because it is a 20 year old car

                  Correct.

                  --------------------------

In all likelihood you will not be able to use the full capacity of the tank, the last gallon or so ends up being a 'puddle' in the tank. I've filled up 16.1 gallons before, right after it had its first 'stutter' from starvation. My gas light comes on at 13.5 to the 14 gallon mark.

Also if your getting that kind of mileage on your car for such little gas usage, then I have to ask, what size tires are you running on the front? The wrong sized tire will cause a speedometer to read high, can make your MPG look better than it is, and cause your odometer to record extra miles that are not really being put on the car.

when i first got my CB i wasnt familiar with "how long i can drive with the gas light on" luckily when my car stalled out i was able to make it to a gas station. it took a little under 16 gallons (16.97...), but every time i fill up (when gas light turns on) its roughly between 13.2-14.6 gallons (which is between 350ish-370ish at every fill up).

I dont think my gauage is wrong and i assume that there was already certain amount of gas in it. i did get 400 so it was obviously full.

The ducks comment was pointed towards college football. Im from oregon and the best college football team in the country is located there.

And i am runnning 215/45/17 as tires but i use a gps to track my mileage.
