ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Window issue

First things first, I don't know if this is in the right section, if not, can I get a mod to move this to the appropriate place? Thanks.

    Now, on to the issue.

My power window seems to work, but when I try to bring it down about half way, it sounds like something gets stuck and just clicks. I have no clue what it could be, and was wondering if anyone had an idea.

Is it the driver side window ? Is it the switch you here clicking when the window stops or something in the door ? Dose the window move fast or slow ?
this was put together by evil_demon_01 . You can also fined all this and more by him in the Common Beginner Technical Info can be found in here. PLEASE READ HERE FIRST

It could be the window motor stripped on some teeth. That happen to me before on my mustang. I would recommend taking off the panel and looking it over. The window motors are not hard to change in our cars.

It's not the switch that clicks, so I think you might have it right Andrew. I'll have to take a look when I get home from work. Also, gotta see how much a window motor runs for. Lol.

edit: forgot to mention that it sounds like metal grinding (?)
if possible i'll post a video or something.

I just did this replacement the other day on the driverside front. If thats the direction you are headed, I found removing the front speaker helped and to keep the window in it's moulding/track on both sides of the door. I didn't and frustration was abound.

              Thanks guys.

I don't know if I should order just the window motor, or the whole assembly.
              Any suggestions on this?

Also probably gonna pick up the window guide 'cause I guess the track wasn't lubricated so it started biting and now it's all fucked up for the most part. I'll attempt to take pics for a before and after.

Due the cost difference I replaced the motor and the railing. Might as well since you're there.

Most of the time its the regulator failing or falling apart. It woulb benefit and the window to get the motor with regulator.

So, the motor/rail along with the seal is currently in transit (after a good 2 weeks).

For the lubrication, some say a silicone grease, but others say a silicone powder...

                    Not sure which to use.

In most cases you will see the original lubricant is a grease form.

I stick with this form as it is clingy, stays and heavy enough to not wash off or require frequent regreasing.

Sure it attracts dust particles but the mechanisms are not too sensitive to rapidly wear and tear with dust contaminants.

I suggest a spray on grease for 1) ease of application 2) gets into more places instantly 3) It is not too heavy and minimises accumulation of dirt compared to a heavy grease but does leave a grease like residue that is resistant to being washed away or blown away by the wind generated in the cavity (when window is down or at highway speeds)

Just a regular spray on grease like wd-40? Or something that uses white lithium?

As for the window channel, would the same spray on (silicone) grease suffice or should I get a graphite powder lube?

White lithium for the regulator and mechanical parts. Idea is that it sticks to the metal and gets reused again and again and will not be washed or blown away.

Silicone spray for the window channels as this penetrates and conditions the seals (rubber or plastic compound). Idea is it stays by penetration and via penetration it makes the seals flexible again reducing drag as well as annoying squeaks or scraping noises.

Some recommend graphite but as I see it graphite is:

                          1) more difficult to apply (relying on gravity only unlike a pressurised silicone spray that has propellant, surface tension and also gravity) and
                          2) does not penetrate the seals and so
                          3) doesn't condition the seal, subject to rubbing off, falling off or being blown away as it doesn't stick and stay and
                          4) due to 3 it requires more frequent reapplication.

Some say the downside is it attracts dust. However since the silicone gets absorbed by the seal and only leaves a light residue I think the dust attraction is minimal and negligible since the problem is usually due to too much traction caused by hardening seals rather than too much dust.

The trick to minimise dust attraction at its wet state is to:

                          1) not over do the silicone but only applied sparingly
2)give it 4 to 6 weeks after initial application before seals begin to get actually condition do not be impatient and
                          3) do a reapplication after 2 months then after 4 months then 8 months (slowly increasing).

Sweet thanks for the insight. UPS just delivered the motor with regulator.

Gonna try to get this done tonight before I head to bed.

                            edit;

Thanks for the help guys. Got it all replaced. Window works perfectly, and i don't have to deal with a pesky worn out window channel.
