Metallic rattling noise occurring during acceleration

So I've had this metallic rattling noise occurring with this car sine it was purchased a year ago. At first I thought it might be a loose heat shield, and put hose clamps on the heat shield around the cat. It didn't make a difference and the noise still occurs.

It normally occurs at between 2k and 4k rpm, but doesn't seem to occur when the car is in park/neutral, only when driving. Any ideas on what it could be?

Have you noticed any metallic shavings in your oil or trans fluid when you change them out?

Maybe it is knocking,,,,,
I'd check the ignition timing if it was my car. One thing out of the way for troubleshooting.

There are a lot more heat shields that can rattle other than just the one around the cat...

I've had the little one by the alternator rattle, as well as the main one covering the exhaust manifold.

If it won't do it at an idle try putting the engine under a load. Have someone put 1 foot on the brake and give it a little gas. The increased load on the engine might produce the rattle and you will be able to narrow down where it is coming from.

Check for missing bolts. The LX i tore apart had a rattle noise and it turned out to be the grill on the car.

Have you noticed any metallic shavings in your oil or trans fluid when you change them out?

Just changed the transmission fluid, and there were some metal shaving on the plug but none coming out with the old fluid.

The sound now seems to subside once the engine has warmed up, it used to occur all the time. It also now occurs at cold idle, when the engine rev is in the range of when the noise occurs.

sounds like the same problem i had! it turned out to be my rear motor mount.

between 2k-4k there would be a rattle. it was the motor mount not supporting the engine, and the engine was able to move around enough to rattle against something.

possible solution?

My friend had a similar problem it turned out to be his cat it some how blew out or broke and it would rattle a bit as well possibly try looking into that it may be ur problem but keep us posted and let us know what happens or what it is

i had a very similar problem and in my case it was a cracked exhaust manifold!! took a while to figure it out too lol

Valves may be out of adjustment

Check the downpipe to block mounting bracket. That usually rattles
