ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    exhaust porting

i am build a f22ax engine forged bottom end and big 16g turbo so ill be keeping under 400hp. but the engine should be able to take 500hp so im going ask this question with the possibility that maybe one day ill ask it for more then 400hp.

i know that the intake ports on a f22ax head are fine in stock form but should i get the exhaust ports opened up. im just wondering because i dont know how porting the exhaust ports affect a turbo engine

At the least you should port match to the manifold you are going to use.

That is really all you need to do. However if you are going to send it to a machine shop to do it, you may as well have them do a mild port job.

Keep in mind, turbo port jobs and N/A port jobs may vary.

this i why i was wondering if porting the head would even be worth it after pressure rise of the turbo ill be already looking at what 40 to 60 psi of back pressure

plus i called a place today and they want 650 bucks to just port the head on the exhaust side and do a valve job. then i asked how much on a head that was already rebuilt he said about the same price

I've always felt that even a stock head flows just fine for turbo performance... then again, I don't have a turbo, nor have I planned in detail for one. If I did, I wouldn't be looking for that much power anyway (since it's pretty tough to actually use it on a lightweight FWD car!)
An oldschool guy at a meet once told me that there's no need to modify most Honda heads when going turbo. He got 600+whp from a turbo H22, if I recall correctly... no head work whatsoever.

i was kind of figuring that. i talked to a shop and they only wanted to charge 200 to do the exhaust porting on it so i was just wondering if it would be worth it

Be careful who does your porting. If they don't have a flow bench, and they're not familiar with the F22A head, then you could end up getting something worse than stock. Some people just think hogging out the ports to make them larger is going to increase performance, and it can actually cause a major loss in power.

For turbo though, I wouldn't even bother. Take that $200 and put it toward better turbo components, or more dyno time.

for a turbo, id still port the exhaust. intake wouldnt matter even for most budget N/a applications.
